Hello Leopard Families :)

4th grade is an exciting new year for your students and I’m excited to go on this journey with them. My goal this year is to help your students grow and learn how to make good choices for themselves, both personally and academically. They will also practice time management, build good habits, being mindful, learning responsibility for themselves & their school work. Figuring out what to prioritize will be difficult for many of your students, but they will get there.

The motto we use my class is:

“Do what you HAVE to do, to do what you WANT to do”.

Research has shown that it takes up to 8 weeks to create new habit, so for the first trimester of school, please be patient with them as they navigate these new expectations. Help them if they really need it, but it’s also okay to let them fail. 4th grade is a safe place to learn that failure does not always have to be a negative. We can learn a lot from our mistakes and grow from those experiences.

Weekly Assignments- Due Friday Morning

AR Test

Students are responsible for reading 1 book per week and passing an AR test with an

80％ or higher. If their book is going to take them longer than the week, they may request an extension. Extensions must be requested over email by Thursday evening. They may not be requested 2 weeks in a row.

Word Work Packet

Students will receive a list of vocabulary words each week to work on spelling and vocabulary activities. Words and activities will be posted through google classroom weekly. Spelling test- weekly

iReady Minutes

Students will be responsible for completing 45 minutes each of iReady Reading and iReady Math. Students will have time in class to work on their iReady minutes during the school day.

Listening Practice

Students will be responsible for completing their listening practice (podcast) each week. Links to podcasts will be posted through google classroom. Listening Form will be located in the classroom.

Grammar Quiz*- Friday

Grammar practice will occur the school day each week

Readworks Article Quiz*- Friday

Students will be assigned an article each week to practice reading & writing skills we have been working on during the week.

*These assessments will be assigned at some time during the school day each Fridays.

Other work

Daily Math Practice

Students will be responsible for completing their math practice for the lesson each day. They will be provided between 15-25 minutes each day to work on it during the school day. Whatever is not completed will need to be finished at home.

Daily Reading

Students will be responsible for reading each day at home for 20 minutes or more. To be able to complete their weekly AR Test, your student will need to be reading at home daily.

Unfinished classwork

What is not finished in class will be assigned to be finished at home.

Projects

These are longer term assignments (genius hour presentations, essays, book reports, novel unit projects, PBL’s & etc.) that will be assigned throughout the trimester. All information will be sent home with plenty of time to complete it.

Reading Passport

If students are able to complete reading 10 different genres per trimester and receive an AR test score of 80％ or higher for each book, they will earn a free lunch from their teacher.
