Southern African Quality Assurance Network (SAQAN)

The Southern African Quality Assurance Network (SAQAN) is a voluntary association of quality assurance bodies, and higher education institutions, which are united by their commitment towards entrenching a strong culture of quality in higher education across the region. Its main priorities are to promote quality assurance, and support the development of quality assurance-related capacity in the Southern African region as stipulated in the SAQAN constitution. To this end, SAQAN organises conferences and workshops regularly hosted by member countries.

Conference History

A few conferences have been held since the first one in 2014 which was held in Victoria Falls Zimbabwe. The second one was held in Botswana in 2015 co-hosted by the Botswana Qualifications Authority (BQA) and the Human Resource Development Council (HRDC). The third conference was held in Pretoria, South Africa in 2016 organised by the Council on Higher Education (CHE) of South Africa. The next conference is due in 2018, and it will be held in the Kingdom of Lesotho in Maseru.

It is against this background that the Council on Higher Education (CHE) Lesotho will be hosting the 4th Southern African Quality Assurance Network conference on higher education in October 2018.

The main objective of the conference is to bring together quality assurance practitioners and researchers in the SADC region and beyond to share experiences, best practices and approaches towards promoting the culture of quality assurance in Higher Education. It is also intended as a platform for exchanging research findings pertaining to quality assurance, promotion and development. Quality assurance professionals from Southern Africa and other regions on the continent are invited to submit paper abstracts and/or poster abstracts with a view to present at the conference.
