The ability to read for pleasure is an important part of being an informed citizen of the world. In order to stay engaged in reading, we need to poke around and figure out what really interests us. We need to teach our students how to find and follow their passion through reading. Some students may never read in English for pleasure, but they can read for information and, hopefully, find books in either their native language or in English that they can get lost in. Our little library is a portal to the world. Once students understand that reading is not just homework but is also personally rewarding, they will keep stepping through the door and looking for the tools and the joy they need to move forward. - Ms. Jackson
