Amy Hoechten

Hello! My name is Mrs. Hoechten. I have been a teacher here at Parkway since 2010. I have taught English I, English I Honors, English I Pre-AP, Film as Literature, English III, Technical English, AP English Literature, English IV, and Senior Project! I look forward to getting to know you better, but here is a little bit about me:

This year I am teaching seniors again! I love teaching seniors because the literature studied in English IV is British literature, and- while some may say it sounds boring- it happens to be my favorite! I like to brag that I can make ANY and EVERY student enjoy Shakespeare. It's my superpower! We do lots of fun activities in my class to make the literature come to life. ... that is why I love this job.

I like to keep the lines of communication open with my students. Students may reach me via e-mail or Google Classroom. I respond as quickly as I can. Parents are welcome to contact me if necessary via e-mail or on my school telephone during my department hour. All of my contact information is on my syllabus.

It's going to be a great school year! GO PANTHERS!

Hello!!

My name is Ashley Hammerbeck, and I have been teaching ELA for 8 years. I started my career at Elm Grove Middle School but this year I came home to my Alma Mater. I am thrilled to be back at Parkway High School. Teaching is an absolute passion of mine!!

I am a SOBO girl to the core. I have spent my whole life here and love that I get the chance to give back to the community I grew up in. I graduated from Parkway and went on to get my Bachelors degree from LSU-S and then my Masters in the Art of Teaching from Northwestern.

I have five beautiful kids ranging from 3-15. They are all thriving in the Bossier school system and are active in all forms of sports such as Color Guard, soccer, softball, and cheer. My parents are still living in SOBO as well as my sister and her family. We are true SOBO supporters.

This year I have the privilege of teaching Sophomores. I am teaching English II and English II Pre-AP. I am also serving as the Sophomore class co-sponsor with another fellow SOBO alum. I look forward to an amazing first year here at PHS and if you ever have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out.

Pre-AP English II

Hey, everyone, my name is Rachel Ryan, and I’m excited to be teaching at Parkway again this year! I was born and raised in Shreveport, Louisiana, and I proudly graduated high school from Caddo Magnet High! I received my Bachelor’s in Secondary English Education from LSU- Shreveport and immediately signed on to teach at Parkway upon graduating. I have been teaching at Parkway since 2021, and I have taught the following courses while in Panther Nation: English II General, English II Pre-AP, and Speech I!

Family is my whole world, and I wouldn’t be where I am today without them. I am happily married to my high school sweetheart, Jon Skylar, and we just recently welcomed our first child, Liam, into the world in August. We have the sweetest red Labrador Retriever named Rosebud, who is the best big sister to her little brother. I am blessed to have three nephews and two nieces between my two sisters and my sister-in-law.

In my free time, I love to travel. My husband and I have been fortunate to visit Europe twice and spend time in the following countries: Spain, Hungary, Austria, Germany, and the Czech Republic. If we’re not traveling internationally, you can find us in sunny Florida at the most magical place on earth, Disney World. During college, I interned at Walt Disney World through the Disney College Program, and Orlando, Florida has been my second home ever since! The magic of Disney is something I try to incorporate into my classroom every day for a magical and memorable learning experience for each of my students.

I am looking forward to another magical semester with all of my students in Mrs. Ryan’sWorld, A229!

I am married to my best friend who loves to spend time outdoors, hunt, and fish as much as possible. We have a 13 year old girl who attends Caddo Middle Magnet in Shreveport, LA and we have a little girl who will be 2 in November.

During my spare time, I enjoy being with my family, sewing, singing, traveling, and spending time outdoors. I love teaching English. My primary goal is to connect the material that we read in class to our everyday lives. I look forward to getting to know each of my students and encouraging them to achieve their personal best.

Business English

This year will be my 3rd year teaching at Parkway and I love it. I was born in Bossier City while my father was stationed at Barksdale AFB. We travelled abroad for several years with the Air Force. My mother and I returned to Bossier and made it our home.

I attended Northeast Louisiana University, now known as ULM. I graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Journalism and a minor in English. Teaching is not my first career. After working as a non-profit executive for nearly two decades, I decided to follow my dream to be a teacher. I went back to school to get my Teaching Certificate and I haven’t looked back. Being a teacher is my dream job!

Without children of my own, I tend to fawn over my Godchildren, Megan and Sean, much to their dismay. I have 2 amazing cats named Lily and Jaz.

I love English and Grammar and Literature! My goal, as a teacher, is to ignite my student’s passion for reading and writing.

Parents, we are in this together. Should you need to reach out to me, my phone number and email are both listed here.

Happy to be a Panther!

Ashley Perkins

Ashley Perkins

English I/ Pre-AP English I

My name is Ashley Perkins, and I have taught English since 2012. I am a product of the Bossier Parish school system and attended Airline High School. After graduating from Airline, I attended Louisiana Tech and received my Bachelor of Arts in Political Science. Later on, I graduated from LSU in Baton Rouge where I earned my Master of Arts in Teaching in 2012.

I’ve spent most of my teaching career in Caddo Parish, but my husband and I recently moved back to North Louisiana from the New Orleans area, where I taught for two and a half years and served as a teacher leader for Jefferson Parish. While my teaching has centered on middle school and its curriculum, I am very excited to teach English I at Parkway and return to Bossier Parish. The English I curriculum contains some of my favorite literary pieces to teach and write about. My teaching methodology consists of a lot of classroom discussion, especially incorporating Socratic Seminars into my lessons. I love listening to my students really “dig” into literature.

In my free time, I love to read books and listen to podcasts! I also love hanging out with family, watching the Saints (Who Dat!), traveling to New Orleans, attending festivals, and spending time with my husband and my son, Graham. In my free time, I enjoy hanging out with my family and pets. We have a Yorkie, Chloe, and a black cat, Voodoo Kitty. We affectionately call Voodoo our “house panther” (a bit of foreshadowing?). I also enjoy reading, gardening, traveling, watching Saints football and attending festivals with my husband.

I firmly believe that receiving an education requires participation not only from the school and student, but also from home. If you ever have any questions, please don’t hesitate to call or email. I look forward to working with my students in my new Parkway home!
