It's important that at this point you understand the difference between a healthy friendship and an unhealthy friendship.
In healthy friendships:
friends are supportive of your decisions
friends stand behind you in case you need help
friends encourage you to grow
friends push you out of your comfort zone and make you comfortable to try new things.
friends are transparent and honest.
In unhealthy friendships:
friends don't let you know when you are doing something unsafe
friends try to fight your battles for you
friends criticize you or judge you, saying hurtful things
friends pressure you into doing something you don't want to do
friends are manipulative and deceitful
friends don't let you be friends with people you want to be friends with
If a friend makes you feel bad about yourself, makes you feel like you have to stop being friends with other people, or makes you do things that are unsafe, that person is NOT a true friend. This may be a toxic relationship!
Choose your friends carefully. Your friends should build you up, not break you down.
