WEEKLY UPDATE 3/29/19
STate assessments to be administered soon
In just a few weeks, students in grades 3-8 will complete the New Jersey Student Learning Assessments in English Language Arts and Math. These assessments will very closely resemble PARCC assessments taken in prior years. The new NJSLA assessments remain computer-based assessments offered by the same company and using the same software as recent PARCC assessments. The primary difference in this year's assessments is that there is a substantial reduction in testing time which allows us to reduce the number of testing days in which students complete ELA and math sessions to four. Students in grades 3-5 will complete the NJSLA assessments on May 6th, 7th, 8th, and 9th. Students in grades 6-8 will complete the assessments on May 10th, 13th, 14th, and 15th. Students in grades 5 and 8 will take a subsequent science assessment in June. We look forward to these opportunities for our students to evidence learning gains and will be embracing the data provided by these assignments to serve as a driver of future instruction.
Should you have any questions about these assessments, please contact us.
8th graders to begin high school scheduling
On Friday, April 5th the school counselors from Boonton High School will be coming to speak with the 8th graders about selecting their 9th grade world language and electives. Please speak with your child about their options and sign their selection sheet by April 12th. SPRING CONCERT season just around the corner
We are excited to announce that our spring concert dates are set and we look forward to seeing our students take the stage to showcase their musical talents. This year, the Elementary Spring Concert for 3rd-5th grade students and families will take place at the Boonton High School Auditorium on April 30th at 7pm. We are excited about the opportunity to use this larger venue so that more ample seating is available for our families and so that our students may see their peers perform. The 6th-8th Grade Spring Concert will take place at John Hill School on May 8th at 7pm. We look forward to having you join us!
5th graders earn recognition for poster designs
Today, the 5th grade enjoyed a presentation by Ms. Karoline Genung, Northern Regional Dental Coordinator of the Department of Health. In January, students were challenged to participate in a poster contest to promote sugarless day, a day to focus on oral health and making healthy food choices. Students completed their posters during Ms. Jentzen's art class and they were recognized for their efforts today. Ms. Genung awarded the 1st place recognition to Justin and 2nd place to Sofia. During her time with students, Ms. Genung also reiterated the importance of brushing and flossing twice a day along with other oral health practices.
