students complete i-ready assessments

Students in grades 3-8 recently completed i-Ready assessments in math and language arts. These online diagnostic assessments are used to help us monitor student progress and to identify ways in which we can best meet the collective and individual needs of students. An i-Ready diagnostic assessment was also given at the beginning of the year and will again be offered at the end of the year to monitor student growth in math and language arts.

Following an exploration of biographies in the Reading Workshop program, students researched individuals and completed biography informational posters to display for their peers. Students enjoyed celebrating each other's work and learning about significant citizens in history.

HELPING HANDS CLUB CREATES PATRIOTIC VALENTINES FOR LOCAL VETERANS

Students in the Helping Hands Club continue to see ways to be of service to others and to spread positivity throughout the region. Most recently, they worked together to create valentines for veterans living at the veterans home in Basking Ridge. Pictured are some of the Valentines that will be delivered. Any elementary students interested in joining Helping Hands can contact Ms. Smith and join this service organization.

The activities developed include literacy games, musical performances, computer games, arts and crafts, poetry readings, story time and other events. There will also be a book donation where students can donate unwanted books that will be given to a local charity. The event will take place on February 26th. It is open to all students grades k-8. If interested in attending the event, you must RSVP to cynthia.tserkis@boontonschools.org by February 13th.

5th GRADERS PUT ON THEIR TEACHING HATS FOR PRESCHOOL

Miss Bacchetta’s fifth grade class was excited to host the preschool class for Valentine’s Day science experiments! The fifth graders ran the experiments, while teaching the preschoolers about making hypotheses and observations. Two groups created chemical changes by mixed baking soda and red vinegar, while the other two groups created physical changes by mixing oil and red water together. Both groups had a wonderful time being able to teach, learn, and have some fun!

A NOTE REGARDING SNACKS AT SCHOOL

As we continuously work to maintain a safe and healthy environment at school, we have updated our approved snack list for classroom celebrations. This list is a combination of a defined set of previously approved foods along with a link to snacksafely.com, a more comprehensive website of foods that is updated frequently with the latest nutritional information and safety designations. The new list is linked from the school website and also available here.
