What's Happening at School Street School?

Dear School Street School Families,

I hope everyone was able to enjoy the holiday weekend, the beautiful weather and the outdoors! It is hard to believe that our last day of school is just around the corner. As the teachers and I begin to plan for the end of the year, we will stay in close communication with you.

We are currently putting together optional summer assignments. These will be placed on our website. These assignments are suggested activities to keep the children intellectually engaged in July and August. I am happy to say that our subscription to Raz-Kids has been extended until the end of August. Raz-Kids is an excellent website to use when looking for "just right" books for children to read. Please keep your login information in a convenient and safe location.

We are also in the process of gathering student materials that are at school. Families will be invited to School Street School alphabetically on June 15th, 16th, and 17th to pickup any belongings and drop off any books/materials borrowed. You will receive a letter from me shortly, detailing the plan.

June 15th - Last Names A-H

June 16th - Last Names I-P

June 17th - Last Names Q-Z

I hope all of you got to play "The Baby Picture Game!" The answers will be sent out next Monday. Below is the link for anyone who would still like to participate.

As the weather is warming up, please make sure that the children spend time outside each day!

In closing, thank you for your continued support!

Warm regards,

Alison

KINDERGARTEN

As a kindergarten team we sincerely hope that you and your loved ones were able to unwind and recharge over the long weekend and that you are optimistic about our collective future.

Right back into virtual learning, poetry lovers hunted for rhyming sight words and enjoyed some clever poems. We appreciated the rhythm and rhyme of the "Unfriendly Alligator," and practiced reading and reciting simple four-lined poems, such as, "I Like to Swim"

I like to run.

I like to play.

I like to swim.

On a bright sunny day.

Curious writers chose an animal to investigate. Questions explored included, What does your animal look like? Where does it live? What does it eat? How does it move? We look forward to reading the finished products!

Mathematicians had fun playing math games via ABCYa and during science we learned more about the job of a meteorologist. We even dressed the part while we reported on the weather! Keep up the great work friends!

YAY!!! All kindergartners will now have access to RAZ Kids until the end of August! Please continue to take advantage of this important opportunity because-------

FIRST GRADE

We hope everyone enjoyed their much needed and much deserved five day break from schoolwork. Welcome to the home stretch. We are so proud of all our first graders for logging in and completing their work each day. Keep up the good work!

Second Grade News

We hope all of our second grade friends had a wonderful, relaxing long Memorial Day weekend with their families! This week our super smart second graders finished their math chapter about measuring in inches. Next week we will begin to learn to record data using tally marks and create different types of graphs to show that data. In writing, students are expanding their how-to writing pieces to include at least 5 steps. They are including transition order words to organize their writing and remembering to add all the important details to be the BEST teachers they can be! In social studies, we are learning about Antarctica and what makes it so COOL. We are so impressed with all your hard work! Only three more weeks to go!

Music News!

It's been all about puppets in our music lessons lately! Check out the flipgrid for all of the incredible creativity our students are showing with how they are creating and using puppets. This apple puppet created by Nathaniel and his dad doubles as a snack when they're finished playing! Special thanks to Ani Myers, a John Hill sixth grader, for the interview with her puppets featured in this week's lesson.
