JOHN HILL SCHOOL

WEEKLY UPDATE - 10/5/18

WEEK OF RESPECT ACTIVITIES

During this "Week of Respect," Ms. Mizov and Ms. Maier completed lessons with students about respect and how students play pivotal roles in building positive communities. This marked the beginning of a series of lessons designed to promote healthy communication, conflict resolution, and coping skills. As part of this initiative, every student completed a unique "peace tile" (pictured left). These tiles will be displayed together as a mosaic in the cafeteria.

In addition, Ms. Halliwell's students have been working together to create a respect mural (pictured below) which is proudly displayed in one of our 2nd floor hallways.

HALLOWEEN FESTIVITIES

Believe it or not, it is already time to be thinking Halloween! In keeping with tradition, our 3rd-5th graders will participate in a costume parade on October 31st. The parade will begin at 1:50 and students will parade around the perimeter of our upper field. Parents and families are welcome to attend.

Students in all grade levels may wear costumes to school on October 31st. Apart from the parade, however, faces may not be concealed by masks or significant face paint. All costumes must be in good taste and school appropriate.

BOOK FAIR NEXT WEEK!

The PTA Fall Book Fair will take place next Tuesday through Thursday in the JHS gymnasium. This will include special evening hours on Thursday, October 11th when the shop will be open to families and the general public from 3pm - 8pm. A Book Fair Raffle will be held for visitors during this time frame as well.

ELEMENTARY CONFERENCES

Elementary (grades 3-5) conferences will occur during the afternoon of November 5th and the evenings of November 5th and 6th. If you did not sign up for a conference at Back to School Night, your child's teacher will be reaching out with an invitation to arrange a parent-teacher conference in the coming weeks.
