Kindergarten

Kindergarteners started the week off right by celebrating the 100th day of school. They made 100th day necklaces, 100th day crowns, 100th day bracelets and mystery pictures. Some students engaged in 100th day STEM activities. They designed and built structures out of 100 cups and 100 snap cubes! Some students also brought in collections of 100 things: 100 marshmallows, 100 gems, 100 crayons, 100 sprinkles, 100 puzzle pieces, 100 Skittles, 100 wooden biscuits, 100 Cheerios, 100 Q-tips, 100 baseball cards, 100 Legos, 100 pipe cleaners, 100 pom poms, 100 water balloons, 100 pine cones, 100 wiggle eyes. They discussed how each collection looked different even though everyone counted 100 things.

We couldn't let the week go by without spreading a little love! Valentine's Day themed activities were well received by all! Some activities included Made With Love, Valentine Tap, and Valentine Pictionary!

Favorite read alouds this week included Slugs in Love and Love is Everywhere! Click on the link below to read more valentine books with your little sweethearts. Have a lovely, long weekend!

First Grade

First graders started off their week celebrating the 100th Day of School and Valentine’s Day. They had so much fun doing 100th-Day activities and exchanging Valentines with their classmates. This week students learned about President’s Day and and why we celebrate. They read about George Washington and Abraham Lincoln and why they are important. As first-grade writers become expert nonfiction writers, they continue to add more to their nonfiction books, adding comparisons and writing with more details. First-grade readers celebrated all the hard work they have done reading and learning about many different nonfiction topics. They were eager to share all the new information they learned with their teachers and friends. In math, the first graders continued to learn about the relationship between addition and subtraction. They have practiced using addition to check subtraction and have even begun algebra, finding the unknown number in an equation. The first graders have worked so hard applying all these challenging new skills.

Second Grade

Wow, we had lots to celebrate on Monday! We enjoyed the day completing several 100 days activities and Valentine's Day projects. In Reading Workshop the students learned to recognize literary language in their books (similes, metaphors, idioms, etc.) and explain what each means. They also worked on how to explain why the author chose to add those craft moves. In Writing Workshop the students learned how to add details and actions to stretch out their stories to bring their writing ALIVE! Students also practiced editing their piece by adding appropriate punctuation. In Fundations the students continued to learn to identify words that have vowels followed by the consonant r. We started chapter 5 in math and the students learned how to break apart ones to subtract and break apart two digit numbers to subtract. In social studies the students continued to learn about African American heroes and how they stood up for what they believed in and helped make a difference. We also learned about President’s Day by reading about George Washington and Abraham Lincoln. Have a wonderful long President’s Day weekend.

*Getting your flu shot may be more important than ever this year.

This year the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says it may be more important than ever to get the influenza vaccine. The flu vaccine will not protect you against COVID-19, but it will reduce your risk of getting the flu.

A Flu virus can cause many of the same symptoms as COVID-19, including fever, cough, and difficulty breathing. Particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic, it’s even more important to be vaccinated against the flu to help prevent influenza, avoid a mistaken diagnosis of COVID-19, and preserve healthcare resources. The flu vaccine is recommended for all elementary students, but for children up to 59 months old (all Pre-k students), it is required by state statute, and compliance is mandated for a student to remain in school. Non-compliance with this mandate will necessitate the student to be excluded from school until compliance is met.

Please forward your physician's immunization record or exemption letter to the email provided as soon as possible to stay in compliance with the state mandate.

Happy Valentine's Day Mrs. Chauhan!
