Kentucky No-Tuition Promise Schools

Alice Lloyd College

This small school in Kentucky guarantees free tuition to students who live in the Central Appalachian service area. Residents of Kentucky, Ohio, Tennessee, Virginia and West Virginia may qualify for Alice Lloyd College's free tuition program. All students take jobs through the student work program. Tasks include working in maintenance, community service and other duties.

Berea College (KY)

At Kentucky’s Berea College, students pay no tuition. Each admitted student receives the school's Tuition Promise Scholarship, which amounts to more than $176,000 over four years, according to the school's website. Students must work at least 10 hours per week on campus, and they earn roughly $5.60 to $8.60 hourly, which can be used to pay for room, board and books, though students can use up to $1,000 in outside scholarships to pay for books.

Creighton University

Creighton University, located in Omaha, Nebraska, offers a top-ranked education in the Jesuit tradition for people who want to contribute something meaningful to the world. It’s where students, faculty and staff thrive in a supportive community committed to Jesuit, Catholic values and traditions. Here, students learn to become leaders through service to others.

Creighton creates a lifetime of value by caring for students’ mind, body, and spirit. We offer more than 140 academic programs, degrees, and majors, so you’ll be able to study exactly what you love. Our accessible faculty members put you first and support your growth through deeply personalized attention. Everything we do at Creighton stands on a solid Jesuit foundation, which promotes a uniquely rigorous education and reflects what matters most.

Many students have been unable to take the ACT or SAT as planned this year. Canceled testing dates, limited capacity, and other challenges have increased students' anxiety about standardized testing. As a result, this year, we're adjusting our test-optional policy to be more flexible. We don’t want students to pause their college search while waiting for an upcoming test date. We are encouraging students to apply to Creighton as a test-optional applicant.

Then, if a student is able to take a test in the coming months and they want their application to be re-reviewed for merit scholarships with the test score, they will be able to do so through the December testing dates*.

In fact, we will review and award scholarships based on the highest possible scholarship outcome. If a student sends scores after admission that would improve their scholarship award, we will re-evaluate. If scores are sent after admission that would negatively affect their scholarship decision, no change will be made.

Eastern Kentucky University

Your time starts now! Take the next step toward charting your course at Eastern Kentucky University. Test our new freshman Scholarship Estimator to see if you qualify for an automatic merit award.

ROTC Scholarship

Most universities host Army ROTC programs and offer various scholarship opportunities and financial assistance, which can be a great opportunity for high school students to use to potentially graduate college debt free.

Army ROTC is also one of the only programs that offer students a guaranteed part-time OR full-time job in 18 different career fields after successful completion of the Army ROTC program and college graduation.

The Army ROTC National Scholarship board is a competitive program that provides eligible Juniors and Seniors 3-Year and 4-Year scholarship opportunities to a university that has Army ROTC. Miami University

Miami University's 2020 Bridges Program application is now live!

This year, the Bridges Program is a virtual visit experience for high-achieving high school seniors from historically underrepresented populations or who have a commitment to promoting a deeper understanding of and appreciation for diversity. The program attracts students who represent diversity of all kinds — racial/ethnic, sexual orientation and gender identity, and socioeconomic.

More detailed information and any changes/updates to the program will be provided to you in the coming months, but for now, you can visit the Bridges Program website for more information.

21-20 Admissions Information

Application Deadlines and Updates

This year, we will have three application deadlines for Fall 2021. Miami offers Early Decision, Early Action, and Regular Decision deadlines.

  • The Early Decision application deadline is December 1 with a December 15 decision notification date.

  • The Early Action application deadline is December 1 with decision notification no later than January 15.

  • The Regular Decision application deadline is February 1 with decision notification no later than March 15.

All application instructions for Fall 2021 may be found on our application checklist page.

Test Optional for Fall 2021*

Most students applying for Fall 2021 will not be required to provide an ACT or SAT test score for admission or scholarship consideration. Applications without test scores will be evaluated using criteria including GPA, academic rigor, application essays, co-curricular and extracurricular activities, talent, and background, among others. Please note, there are some exceptions to this policy. With the continually changing testing landscape due to COVID-19, we recommend visiting our test-optional FAQs for more details.

*Miami has not made a decision about being test optional beyond 2021.

Self-Reported Grades and Test Scores

First-year applicants will self report their high school courses and grades through Miami’s online Self Reported Academic Record (SRAR) service. They will gain access to the service via their Miami Applicant Status Page. When completing their SRAR, they will need a copy of their complete high school transcript(s) and their senior-year schedule. Students also will be able to self report their standardized test scores. View our SRAR FAQs for more details.

Admitted students who confirm their enrollment will be required to provide an official, final transcript with proof of high school graduation. Confirmed students who self reported test scores for admission or scholarship consideration also will need to provide official test score reports from the testing agency.

Honors Programs

Our honors programs are changing this year, but the application process is the same. On the Common Application, students identify their interest in the Presidential Fellows Program, Honors College, and/or Prodesse Scholars Program and then complete a supplemental honors application via their Miami Applicant Status Page.

December 1 is the firm admission application deadline for the Presidential Fellows Program and the priority deadline for the Honors College and Prodesse Scholars Program. Those who submit their admission application by December 1 will have until December 8 to complete the honors supplement.

Guaranteed Merit Scholarships

We are proud to bring back our guaranteed merit scholarships for domestic students applying for Fall 2021 admission. Guaranteed scholarship amounts are listed in the link above.

Merit scholarships for international students are still to be determined.

December 1 is the priority deadline to be considered for Miami's merit scholarship guarantee. Students who apply after this deadline will be considered based on scholarship availability. Admitted students will be able to submit updated courses/grades and test scores via their SRAR through February 15 for additional merit scholarship consideration; however, additional scholarships are not guaranteed.

Counselor Recommendations on the Common Application

The Common Application School Report is required of all applicants, and if counselors complete the recommendation section of this report, that will satisfy the student's recommendation requirement. A written letter of recommendation from a counselor or teacher also will satisfy the recommendation requirement, but a letter is optional if a recommendation was provided on the school report.

Fall Travel and Campus Visits

Miami admission counselors will not be traveling to attend or host off-campus events this fall. However, we will be hosting and participating in virtual events, including high school visits and college fairs. Counselors are currently planning their fall events, but you may reach out to your admission representative to check their availability. Additionally, we have not yet resumed on-campus visits. We encourage you and your students to visit MiamiOH.edu/visit to check out our virtual options. Once on-campus visits resume, registration also will be available on this site.

In addition, students unable to test again this fall could submit test scores and then also take a virtual math placement test if they did not meet the required SAT/ACT.

  • The School of Nursing is also currently reviewing a test-optional policy to submit to their faculty for consideration.

  • The University of Louisville is preparing a pivot to scholarships based on grade point average. We hope to make this announcement with details in early October.

  • The University of Louisville will continue to monitor our admissions policies and our scholarship criteria where test scores are required. We are tracking test cancellations and limited capacity at open test centers due to COVID-19 restrictions. Students should contact their admissions counselor for assistance and check their email from our office and our website for updates. Learn more at uofl.me/test-optional.

  • Stay tuned for more updates concerning the role of test scores in scholarships and some competitive academic units.

HONORS COLLEGE / TOP SCHOLARS APPLICATION

The Honors College / Top Scholars application launched on September 1 and can be found as a supplement in the UofSC Admissions Portal after students submit their general admissions application. If you know a student who is not automatically prompted to apply to the Honors College but feel they would be an excellent candidate, you can send them this request form. Students must log in to their UofSC Admissions Portal to access the form.

Standardized test scores are encouraged, but not required, for both Honors College and general university scholarship consideration for fall 2021 applicants. All students who apply by December 1 and submit their supplemental materials by February 1 will be automatically considered for general university awards.

OPEN HOUSE

High school seniors and their families are invited to attend one of two virtual Open House events hosted by UofSC this fall. Participants will hear from current students about academics and living on campus, learn about scholarship opportunities and the financial aid process, and get the inside scoop on completing their UofSC freshman application. Live chat will be offered throughout the event for students to ask questions. These events will take place over four days on September 21-24 and October 5-8 from 5- 7 p.m.

Western Kentucky University

WKU will be hosting several virtual events this fall. Seniors who attend will be eligible to win a $500 scholarship or a VIP Visit Experience. Please visit this link for dates.

In addition, please see below:

Beginning with Spring 2021 applicants, first-time freshman admission will be test-optional for students with an unweighted, cumulative GPA of 2.50 or greater. While students must have a minimum 2.0 unweighted, cumulative GPA in order to be considered for admission, only those with an unweighted, cumulative GPA between 2.0-2.49 will need to submit an ACT/SAT score for admission consideration. As a reminder, we do not review or utilize super scores. We will use the highest composite on file for admission and scholarship purposes. Select scholarships and departmental applications, such as the Mahurin Honors College, may still use the ACT/SAT score for admission consideration.
