Everyday Math
This program was developed through the University of Chicago School of Mathematics Project in order to enable children in elementary grades to learn more mathematical content and become life-long mathematical thinkers. It was designed to capitalize on student interest and maximize student learning. In addition to EDM, 5th grade math will be supplemented with a variety of other valuable math resources.
Your child will be assessed periodically over skills in each unit to assure we are spending adequate time covering correct content needs for students. At the beginning of each class, students will complete math boxes, which review covered content. Your child will be graded on a few problems each day, which will be their flashback grade. It is advisable to review these before each unit test.
Your child can expect math homework almost each night. It is a reinforcement of skills taught. It is important that your child develop a good homework routine so that they are prepared for the next day. Please encourage them to use that agenda book!
With each new unit, a Family Letter is available on this website. Simply click it to find information about each unit. You'll also find homework help and new games. I encourage you to play these games with your child at home. It is a great way to reinforce skills and spend quality time with that kiddo at home.
