Fun Day Trips for Boerne Families

Boerne is a great place to live, it is close to so many wonderful places to explore! Take a trip to the San Antonio Zoo for some animal-watching or explore the Comal River in New Braunfels. You can also hike trails at Guadalupe River State Park or head out into Hill Country for an adventure at Natural Bridge Caverns. This list covers just a few of the many things you can do with your family!

The Science Mill is a family destination offering a fun, interactive learning environment for everyone, no matter your age. Museum housed in a refurbished mill offering interactive science exhibits & events for kids. More Info Here

Natural Bridge Caverns is a great place for kids, and it's also a fantastic way to spend time with your family. It's also fun for adults! 

There are lots of things to do at this cave: you can take a guided tour through huge underground chambers. Find your way through one of the only permanent outdoor mazes in Texas. Pan for treasure, like miners panned for gold. Or, test your balance, agility and strength against our ropes course and zip rails. More Info Here

The Arnosky Family Farm is a flower farm located halfway between Wimberley and Blanco. Come out to the Blue Barn with your picnic and spend some time on the back porch and experience the beauty of a local flower farm!

 The Blue Barn is open every day 9 AM - 5 PM and is self serving. Buy some locally grown flowers, vegetable and herb plants, potted flowers, hanging baskets, fresh eggs, and/or local goat cheese from Pure Luck Dairy. More Info Here

The San Antonio Zoo is a great place to spend time with your family. The zoo has thousands of animals that are sure to delight both children and adults. There is something for everyone here! If you love seeing new animals or learning about them, then this is your spot! 

Blooms, Bees & Butterflies festivities are in full swing at the Zoo till  May 26 - featuring larger-than-life glass sculptures of butterflies, bees, praying mantis! It is the perfect environment to see the scenic wonders of nature in full effect alongside astonishing sculptures by artist Alex Heveri’s Glass in Flight Limited Edition exhibit! Plus, get up close and personal with hard-working pollinators at the new John & Greli Less Butterfly Rainforest, featuring hundreds of exotic butterflies and even a free-roaming sloth!

They have special programs for kids where they get up close with some animals such as snakes or birds so that everyone gets involved in learning about what makes these creatures unique from one another - these types of interactions help build confidence levels among children which leads them towards being more comfortable outside their comfort zones which could lead them into pursuing careers related specifically towards biology/ zoology fields later down life's road. The National Museum of the Pacific War is located in Fredericksburg, Texas. It's a great place to take your family if you're interested in history and want to learn more about World War II.  It is Smithsonian Affiliate and accredited by the American Alliance of Museums, NMPW provides the nation's most comprehensive account of World War II in the Asiatic-Pacific theater. The Comal River is a beautiful spring-fed river located in New Braunfels, Texas. Once you arrive at the river, there are many things to do: 

Go tubing! The Comal River has several places where you can rent tubes and float down the river through gorgeous scenery. If you don't want to bring your own tube, no problem--there are plenty of places where they will rent them out for a small fee. 

Hike! There are several trails along the banks of this beautiful body of water that offer incredible views as well as exercise opportunities for all ages (and abilities).  More info Here

If you're looking for an adventure that's close to Boerne, consider exploring the Guadalupe River at Guadalupe River State Park. The park offers scenic views and several recreational activities. You can camp, swim in the river or lake, kayak on its calm waters or fish for catfish in deeper areas of either body of water. If you prefer hiking over swimming or fishing (or both), there are plenty of trails available within this park as well! More Info Here

Old Tunnel is home to up to 3 million Mexican free-tailed bats and 3,000 cave myotis bats from May through October.  They open the park in the evening after 5pm for bat viewing and programs. If you're looking for a way to get some exercise and spend time with your family while learn about wildlife, the Old Tunnel State Park is the perfect place!  Bring a picnic, lots of water and spend quality time with your family hiking, bird-watching and stargazing!
