PRINCIPLES OF ARCHITECTURE (#5615)
Principles of Architecture provides an overview to the various fields of architecture and interior design. Career opportunities are included in addition to work ethics and job-related study. Effective communications, problem solving, critical thinking, safety, health, and environmental concerns are addressed. Other topics include leadership and teamwork; ethics and legal responsibilities; employability and career development; introduction to hand and power tools; and reading and drafting technical drawings. Students will be introduced to Chief Architect software with studio labs focusing on the design of a storage container cabin, 3D model or concept board of cabin. Students will have the opportunitiy to complete a 5-Hour Employability Interview Skills Certification.

ARCHITECTURAL/INTERIOR DESIGN I (#5514)
Architectural/Interior Design I centers on knowledge and skills specific to those needed to enter a career in architecture and interior design while preparing a foundation toward a postsecondary degree in architecture, drafting, interior design, and landscape architecture. This course includes the knowledge of design history, functional residential design, techniques and tools related to the production of drawings, renderings, scaled models or concept boards for residential architectural purposes. Basics of elements/principles of design, lighting and ADA/NKBA kitchen and bath design will also be addressed. Studio projects will allow students to explore the careers of architecture or interior design, depending on their interest. Knowledge and advanced skills in Chief Architect software are developed.

ARCHITECTURAL/INTERIOR DESIGN II (#5518)
Architectural/Interior Design II addresses advanced knowledge of ADA and NKBA design, commercial design, assisted living/early learning centers, and historical renovations. Continued research of post-secondary schools and careers are explored; development of professional portfolio in architecture or interior design is maintained. Studio labs are based on student’s desire to explore either field while advancing their skills and knowledge in Chief Architect software.

Practicum in Architectural Design is the capstone course specifically designed to provide advanced technical instruction in architecture or interior design. Safety, post-secondary schools abroad, career opportunities and work ethics are further explored. Students may experience an unpaid (or paid) fall internship off campus or complete the design and presentation of a community-needs project in class. Skills in Chief Architect software are refined in the spring during studio labs to prepare for the Chief Architect Apprentice Certification exam.
