Hello everyone! My name is Mrs. Simmons, and this is my 7th year teaching math at UHS. I'm super excited about this school year and being able to work with all of you (parents and students) to develop an appreciation of math!
I am a HUGE believer that EVERYONE CAN DO MATH! If you're "not a math person," there were probably some instances in your past that have led you to that conclusion. One of my goals for the school year is to help you boost your math confidence and change those perceptions that you "just can't do math." If you are already a person that enjoys math, I'm here to help you further your knowledge and deepen your understanding of more mathematical topics and develop a deeper enjoyment for the field of mathematics.
In addition to teaching math, I am also the Class of 2024 class sponsor, student council co-sponsor, and the sponsor for the school's HSTA club.
This year, I will be teaching Math 2, Math 4, AP Precalculus and AP Statistics. Below you can find the syllabus for each of these classes with a brief description of what we will be learning in them. You will also find my office hours and appointment information.
Wednesdays from 7:00-7:15, during scheduled PLT sessions, or by appointment
Math 2 is a combination of Algebra 1, Geometry, and Algebra 2. We will be learning about quadratic functions, parallel lines, probability, and so much more!
Math 4 is a precalculus and trig class. It is designed for students who enjoy math classes and have desires to learn more about math topics. We will spend half of the year learning trig topics and half of the year on precalculus topics.
AP Precalculus is a new AP course this school year. We will be covering a wide variety of functions and interpreting what those functions mean in real life situations. This class is intended for students who plan to take AP Calculus next school year.
AP Statistics is not like any other math class you have taken. It focuses on the process instead of a numerical answer. We will be designing studies, running statistical analysis, determining the best way to solve the given problem, and effectively communicating the results.
I can be contacted through Schoology message, email address (rachel.simmons@k12.wv.us), Remind, or if you prefer filling out the below form, I will get back to you as soon as I can.
