It was a hot day and suddenly, I was born. At that time, people offered mother soursop. She was in a dark corner trying not to yell or scream. If mother gave any sign of me being there, they would take me and my twin Yaa away.

As soon as mom pushed Yaa out we all knew something was bound to happen. Mother hid us from her owners but the oye ibo found her by her trail of blood. All I remembered was seeing her beautiful brown eyes. I didn’t cry, in fact, I smiled. I did not know that would be my last time seeing mother but at least I had my sister.
