Today I was out on a stroll to the bustling and delicious smelling market, and I met someone. He had dark brown hair and a serious frown. He ran into me while I was getting a Pittance of candied almonds for dear sweet Lewis.
He said sorry tien times, then said he’d get me another handful of candied almonds. Even though he didn’t make me drop any.
I told him that it was fine and he didn't need to get me any more candied almonds and that he probably had to go wherever he was running to. I told him my name is Maisie and he said his name is William and he is an indentured servant to a kind pewtersmith named Vrow Vander Grim. I immediately felt a pang of guilt about his situation. I hate that people are indentured,, especially a boy my age.
“What’s it like being an indentured servant? That must be hard,” I said. He said having to work 10 hours a day is hard, but he isn’t flogged. His master is kind to him and is teaching him how to pewtersmith and his family back really needs his wages.
He had overslept and missed breakfast and his morning work. I gave him some almonds and he gave them back saying that Vrow Vander Grim would feed him porridge when he got to work. Off he went as I ran beside him and asked him if we could meet again. He said indeed and told me to meet at 11 o'clock on the 1st day of Oktober at the fort on the side with the windmill. “Do you think your master would teach me how to pewtersmith too?” “You can ask. I’ll ask him to come when we meet,”, then he bustled off to work.
I’m hoping i can meet Vrow Vander Grim because I have always wanted to learn how to pewtersmith.
