On my way to New Netherland I felt so thrilled I could vomit. Our life in Holland was not so well. We had a very small house and had a hard time trading for food. But when my father got a job offer at the Dutch West India Company in New Netherland, it was hard to say no.
When we got on the ship I met this boy named Willem but for short, Will. He and his family had a hard life in Holland too. Soon me and Will became good friends! Me, Will, and my sister, Amalia, played most of the time while my father talked to the ship's crew about New Netherland and his new job.
When we first saw New Netherland, me, Will, and my sister were chasing each other when the captain said “land ho!” We instantly stopped and peered over the ship and saw a small little city. Me and Will exchanged looks. We were so exhilarated we pranced around the ship and saying “lalalala.” That was the happiest day of my life.
I live on De Heree Straet. My new house is one room but is bigger than my old home which I am happy about. And I can tell you it is NOT quiet, my sister has been making so much noise lately and has been pestering me so much when I’m just trying to be calm and study. I am so very thrilled to be living in New Amsterdam. Me and Will and Amalia love going to get pastries and like to play with my family’s pig, Bacon. The new baby pig we traded. I do miss Holland a little but not too much, I do love my new life here in New Amsterdam.
