I love how art can take such a complex emotion and demonstrate it in such a powerful way. Many use art as a way of self-expression; myself being one of these people. Sometimes words aren't enough to display the intricate mind of humans.
A question I place into all my artwork is: How does manipulation truly affect the aspects of our life? I looked deeply into how I could experiment with different textures, materials, and composition to demonstrate the obvious and hidden effects of manipulation. With some pieces, I experimented with mixing mediums to show the irregularities of emotions and feelings. I researched different reactions to stress; from the development of mental illness to the abuse of substances. I also looked into the meaning behind specific objects in relation to people's experiences with manipulation. Using that research, I revised this concept to look more towards the inner self, portraying a ghost in some of the photographical pieces to add a sense of lost self due to the deceit and manipulation of others. Overall throughout this question, I observed and researched how the different facets of our life are affected by those around us. I experimented with different variables of life and revised pieces to show examples more in depth.
