I love art since it serves as an amazing way for me to express myself.
What if a connection to nature could help us to resolve our internal and external conflicts? I believe appreciating the beauty of nature can help to reflect on one’s thoughts, especially with any conflicts or troubles they are experiencing. For example, my investigation demonstrates a transition of feeling calm, feeling distressed, and then later finding peace by feeling a connection to nature, specifically to flowers. I began my investigation focusing on getting the features of different subjects correct. I simultaneously discovered how to add more detail to my portraits by focusing on light while experimenting with different materials. I researched Georgia O’Keefe’s work to find inspiration for the kinds of flowers I wanted to draw and paint. My monochromatic portraits demonstrate two sides to a conflict, which is experienced both internally and externally. The flowers affect the mood of the portraits, therefore I had the portraits turn into the same color as the flowers. I revised this idea by adding flowers into the portraits, finally showing how one can be one with nature to find comfort.
