While recent restrictions have forced many businesses to shut down, there are others across the state that are starting to increase hiring to meet an increase in demand. In addition, the National Retail Federation launched this online resource for retail employees to learn about job openings across the country, in the event their current positions have been impacted by the pandemic.

Covid-19 Student Resource: Pandemic Unemployment Assistance

The CARES Act and the NYS programs for unemployed individuals is really new and important. There is traditional unemployment insurance, but there is also Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA)- this is up to $600 available to people who are unemployed because they are sick, have sick relatives, cannot commute, etc.

Please share widely- this is a different resource and is pretty generous. ​

Experiential Learning Opportunities

New- CUNY Startups and Firefly Innovations Summer Public Health Accelerator (Apply by May 4)

In light of the Coronavirus pandemic, CUNY Startups and Firefly Innovations are teaming up to host a summer accelerator that seeks to foster novel solutions to address different challenges connected to or exacerbated by the pandemic, including but not limited to rapid and lower-cost testing technologies, personal protective equipment design, improved surveillance systems, supply chain innovations that address wellbeing (e.g., food, healthcare supply, etc.), mental and social health or integrated health solutions. New- CUNY Investment Industry Fellowship Program (Apply by May 29)

The CUNY Investment Industry Fellowship is designed for current CUNY students interested in pursuing entry level roles in the investment industry. This is an exciting opportunity for CUNY students to increase their knowledge of the industry, build professional skills within a cohort and connect with professional mentors in the investment space. The Fellowship was founded in 2018 by the Centerbridge Foundation, with support from Centerbridge Partners, L.P. You can see the full job description here.

New- Free Production Accounting Training

Entertainment Partners is providing any CUNY student with the unique opportunity to receive FREE certification in production accounting online. By registering, CUNY students will receive the link to the training, the opportunity to receive additional training, and full time job placement when production starts again. Previous trainees have been placed with large, well known production companies such as HBO!

Production accounting is a fast-pace, unique career opportunity for anyone who has an interest in accounting, working with numbers and most importantly with people. Lyft- Early Talent Access (ETA) Program

Between April and July, current computer science majors (graduating in 2022) can attend a virtual information session, followed by a mock interview with a Lyft engineer. The program culminates with a Q&A/Feedback session with a Lyft engineer. Interested students should register for one of Lyft's upcoming webinars to learn more about the ETA program (see links below):

Career Village Interactive & Personalized Career Advice Platform

Career Village is an interactive message board for students to get free personalized career advice from real-life professionals. Career Village was established with the mission to “democratize career education.” Students can create a profile for free and post their questions at any time. Similarly, professionals from a variety of backgrounds and occupations create a profile and provide career advice based on the immediate needs and concerns of students.

Ideas 2 Impact helps make your idea a reality! Through a mix of lectures, professional mentoring, and real-world projects, you will refine, test and pitch your idea in the real world.
