BMCC will deliver all summer course instruction and support services from a distance until further notice. This is being done out of an abundance of caution.
Our plan is to move classes back to campus when it is safe. BMCC will continue to share updates as available on this site, through e-mail, and through social media.
Yes. All students have the opportunity to convert any or all of their (A-F) letters grades they earn in classes this spring to Credit/No Credit which have no impact on GPA. Students will have 20 business days after the grade submission deadline to make any conversions. The deadline to decide between the Credit/No Credit option and the A-F letter grade is June 25, 2020. For more details, read below.
Once selected, the CR/NC option cannot be reversed;
If a student chooses to exercise this option, a passing letter grade (A, B, C, or D) will convert to ‘CR’ with credit for the class being awarded, while a failing grade (F) will convert to ‘NC’, with no credit awarded.
Credit/No Credit grades will not impact the student’s GPA;
Courses taken for a letter grade will continue to be included in the semester and general GPA, while courses taken for a Credit/Non-credit grade will be excluded, just as is the case with such courses taken at a student’s home institution;
If a student exercises the option of Credit/No Credit, the Credit (CR) grade will not negatively impact the student’s satisfactory progress toward degree completion;
Students with Credit/No Credit grades will be able to transfer those courses across colleges within CUNY, per current CUNY policy;
The Special COVID-19 Flexible Grading Policy shall apply to coursework completed on Permit;
Before choosing this grading option for one or more of their classes, students shall consult with their academic and financial aid advisors regarding potential impact to their financial aid, licensure requirements, and graduate school admissions;
The grade glossary, attached to each transcript, will be updated to include a notation denoting that all Spring 2020 grades, including CR or NC, were earned during a major disruption to instruction as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic;
The policy will remain in effect for the Spring 2020 semester and will be reviewed by the Chancellor and extended as necessary to meet public health emergency policies and practices.
In general, the CR/NC grades will not negatively impact F-1 international students legal status in the U.S. Before selecting this grading option, please check directly with your DSO (Designated School Official) in the International Student Services Office.
Yes, the last day to withdraw from a spring class without an impact on GPA has been extended to May 14, 2020.
No. Students who fail to meet conditions of academic or other probation for spring 2020 will be placed on continued probation and not subject to academic dismissal.
Yes. The new deadline to complete all missing assignments, exams, and projects for the fall 2019 and winter 2020 courses is now August 30, 2020.
Despite this difficult period, there are reasons to be happy, and we will take the time to acknowledge one of them. This spring semester is your graduating semester from Borough of Manhattan Community College (BMCC), and we would like to take the opportunity to congratulate you on your upcoming graduation! I also want to commend you for your hard work and for persevering, despite untold setbacks, to achieve this milestone.
Unfortunately, BMCC’s Commencement Ceremony at Barclays Center, which was scheduled for May 29, 2020, will be postponed because of the coronavirus crisis. However, we want to be clear that it is the commencement ceremony that will be postponed, not your graduation. When you complete all the requirements at the end of the spring 2020 semester, you will graduate from BMCC.
We will keep you updated on our plans for the commencement ceremony and on other changes at BMCC as we adjust to this global pandemic. Please continue to work hard on your final courses using our distance-learning format. You are in the home stretch; the finish line is very close, so let’s do all we can to finish strong.
Again, congratulations on your achievements. Please take care of yourself and those around you, and keep checking your BMCC email and our website for further information, updates and guidance.
