Breckenridge Area Site 021001gorge

Just outside of Georgetown, Colorado, you'll find Guanella Pass--a paved road which goes up over the mountains and ultimately connects Georgetown and Interstate 70 with Highway 285--at the tiny town of Grant, Colorado.

The entire pass offers jaw-dropping views and there are several places that are perfect for a top-of-the-world intimate wedding. It's especially spectacular in mid-September to early October, when the Colorado aspens turn a magnificent yellow-gold and can be seen for miles.

At the top of the pass, there is a place with ample parking that offers 360-degree mountain views. It requires very little walking and no permit is required.

Pets are allowed on a leash.

Guanella Pass Road is generally closed from mid-November through the end of May, making this site suitable for weddings from June through late October.

Accessibility

Parking: each site has its own parking area. They can accommodate anywhere from 15-50 cars. They can fill up, so we highly recommend carpooling.

Vehicle type: for winter, make sure your vehicle has good ground clearance to get over snow, as well as 4-wheel drive for potential ice. For weddings held between September 1st and May 31st, note that Colorado has strict traction laws in place that affect what type of vehicle you are allowed to drive in the mountains. If you are planning a Colorado mountain wedding between these dates, please thoroughly read this blog post so you'll be driving the right type of vehicle. (Don't rely on the car rental companies to fill you in on this; our experience is that they don't.)

Access from parking: It's a short walk (2-3 minutes) from the parking area to any of the sites.
