This site is easy to access and is located just outside of town. The parking lot is right there, and you can walk a little or a lot down the trail (bear in mind, additional fees will apply if you want to walk in more than 5-10 minutes or so - then it becomes a "hiking" wedding).
The trail offers fabulous views of the mountains as well as the town of Crested Butte. Like the rest of the town, the view will be awash in wildflowers in July and August. It's green in spring, has gorgeous aspen colors in fall and is an accessible winter site.
And it's free! No permit needed.
What we love about this site:
Mountain views, mountain views, mountain views! They're everywhere.
Summer is wildflower season, and in the fall the Aspens are turning their golden hue.
There is no fee to be married here.
Potential drawbacks of this site
It's non-reservable, so you have to take what you get when you arrive, as it may be in use.
Accessibility
Parking: enough for 12 to 15 cars, but we recommend carpooling.
Vehicle type: for winter, make sure your vehicle has good ground clearance to get over snow, as well as 4-wheel drive for potential ice. For weddings held between September 1st and May 31st, note that Colorado has strict traction laws in place that affect what type of vehicle you are allowed to drive in the mountains. If you are planning a Colorado mountain wedding between these dates, please thoroughly read this blog post so you'll be driving the right type of vehicle. (Don't rely on the car rental companies to fill you in on this; our experience is that they don't.)
Access from parking: the trailhead is a short walk from parking. The trail itself is a dirt path that can get rutty in certain spots. The trailhead starts at about 9,600 feet above sea level. Keep that in mind for anyone with respiratory conditions.
