Situated between Dillon and Frisco, this site offers fantastic views of the Ten Mile Range, Buffalo Mountain, Continental Divide, and beautiful Colorado sunsets.
What we love about this site:
Panoramic mountain views as well as great views of Lake Dillon. The walk to this site is fabulous for "in the woods" photos at any time of year.
Up on a hill for an even more majestic view, and other spots nearby offer different views/backdrops for pictures.
No fee.
Surrounded by aspen trees, which are beautiful in the fall.
Potential drawbacks of this site
It's non-reservable, so you have to take what you get when you arrive. It may be in use.
This site can get very crowded in summer. We recommend it most for weddings from late October through early May.
15-20 minute walk to site via dirt trail.
Snowshoes may be required in winter--particularly if you want to walk the site a bit for a variety of photo backdrops.
Accessibility
Parking: the site has its own parking lot that can accommodate whatever number of cars needed for your guests.
Vehicle type: for winter, make sure your vehicle has good ground clearance to get over snow, as well as 4-wheel drive for potential ice. For weddings held between September 1st and May 31st, note that Colorado has strict traction laws in place that affect what type of vehicle you are allowed to drive in the mountains. If you are planning a Colorado mountain wedding between these dates, please thoroughly read this blog post so you'll be driving the right type of vehicle. (Don't rely on the car rental companies to fill you in on this; our experience is that they don't.)
Access from parking: not recommended if someone in your party has mobility issues. Trail to site is narrow and steep in certain places.
Additional Logistics
Dogs: allowed on a leash.
Bathrooms: no.
Suitable for children: yes, but make sure the hands of little ones are being held.
Max vehicles accommodated: ~20. It is accessible to the public, so those parking spots can fill up
