Breckenridge Area Site 020509sparkles
This is a hike-to site (anywhere from 10-25 minutes) that offers one of a kind panoramic mountain views. Fifteen to twenty minutes up the trail and you are above the tree line, which gives endless views of the surrounding mountains. Or have your ceremony a little lower down and nestle amid evergreen trees (or do both!). This is a four season site, but requires snowshoes in winter.
What we love about this site:
Breathtaking mountain views. (It truly feels like you're on top of the world!)
It's a four-season venue (needs snowshoes in winter).
No fee.
Potential drawbacks of this site
It's non-reservable, so you have to take what you get when you arrive. It may be in use. However, this is a VERY unknown site - we've never seen another person up there during our weddings. There are tons of places to go off the trail where it will be very secluded.
The site requires a hike or a snowshoe trek at 12,000 feet of elevation. Everyone needs to be in optimal physical shape to undertake the walk or snowshoe. You will need to sign a waiver affirming that everyone in your party is physically capable of making the trek.
Our fees and photo-shooting minimums are a bit higher for this site due to the hiking time involved.
Accessibility
Parking: Parking is at a nearby trailhead lot. The lot can get full on summer weekends as there are popular trails nearby.
Vehicle type: for winter, make sure your vehicle has good ground clearance to get over snow, as well as 4-wheel drive for potential ice. For weddings held between September 1st and May 31st, note that Colorado has strict traction laws in place that affect what type of vehicle you are allowed to drive in the mountains. If you are planning a Colorado mountain wedding between these dates, please thoroughly read this blog post so you'll be driving the right type of vehicle. (Don't rely on the car rental companies to fill you in on this; our experience is that they don't.)
Access from parking: It's a 10-25 minute gradual uphill walk from the parking area to the site. Site is at 12,000 feet of elevation.
Additional Logistics
Dogs: allowed on a leash.
Bathrooms: none.
Suitable for children: yes, as long as they can make the walk.
Max vehicles accommodated: varies. It depends on how full the parking lot is. Site is best for weekdays to avoid day-users filling the lot.
Max number of guests at this site: 30.
Dates of Availability: year-round. It's possible to be married here in winter, but you and your guests would need to be on snowshoes (we can arrange these for you)
Type of Site: Public/Nonreservable.
Elevation: 11,500ft (3,505m) above sea level.
