The most popular location for weddings within this park that offers more than 12,000 acres of dense forest, rocky peaks, and aspen-rimmed meadows laced with miles of trails.
This site has a large deck, nearby parking and the views of the Rocky Mountains are spectacular. You can have a wedding at this site without a permit, however, it is a popular location for larger weddings, so there is a chance you may show up and find a big wedding going on if you don't obtain a permit. There are plenty of lovely forested spots right around the observation deck where we can tuck away and have an intimate wedding, so if you're willing to be flexible, we can make it work.
What we love about this site:
Permits not needed for small weddings.
The Rockies can easily be seen on a clear day.
The aspens are incredible in the Fall!
Potential drawbacks of this site
The park itself can get very busy on weekends. Weekdays are your best bet.
Accessibility
Parking: Up to 15 vehicles, $10 daily pass required on each vehicle. A nominated individual from your party is required to check-in at the Visitor Center before the event begins to pre-purchase all vehicle passes for your group.
Vehicle type: for winter, make sure your vehicle has good ground clearance to get over snow, as well as 4-wheel drive for potential ice. For weddings held between September 1st and May 31st, note that Colorado has strict traction laws in place that affect what type of vehicle you are allowed to drive in the mountains. If you are planning a Colorado mountain wedding between these dates, please thoroughly read this blog post so you'll be driving the right type of vehicle. (Don't rely on the car rental companies to fill you in on this; our experience is that they don't.)
Accessibility: dirt path to the deck, but it's a walk of about 20 paces.
Additional Logistics
Dogs/Pets: yes, but must be leashed at all times.
Bathrooms: yes.
Suitable for children: yes.
Max number of guests at this site: 20.
Dates of Availability: year-round.
Type of Site: public and reservable.
Elevation: 9,300ft (2,835m) above sea level.
No permit necessary for smaller weddings.
Times: Reservation entitles you to two hours at Panorama Point. Events must be scheduled between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Please be prepared to select your desired time slot at the time of reservation. Due to rapidly changing weather conditions in the mountains, morning and early afternoon ceremonies are recommended. Please note, we prefer to schedule only one event per day, but two events are possible. Due to the high volume of traffic during Fall colors, no weddings will be allowed Saturdays and Sundays the last two weekends of September, and the first weekend of October. Reserving this site ensures that yours will be the only event, but does not restrict other park visitors from using the facility. We cannot guarantee exclusive use of the facility.
If you decide you want a permit for Panorama Point, we will roll the cost of the permit ($185 Monday - Friday /$335 Saturday - Sunday) into your package fee with us and we will obtain the permit for you.
The site is at an elevation of 9,000 feet. It is apt to be snow-covered until mid-May.
Colorado State Parks does not issue permits for weddings here after 5:00 PM. Technically, they don't want you doing weddings there in the evening. However, if it's just the two of you--or maybe you have a couple of guests, we are generally safe in doing a non-permitted wedding here after business hours. Larger groups, however, would need to get married here earlier in the day or consider alternative venues.
