Boulder Area Site 020103palette

This site, just outside of Boulder, offers spectacular views of the Continental Divide. A short walk (5 minutes) from the parking lot down a well-maintained (but not handicapped accessible) trail leads you to this overlook.

This site, while perfect for an intimate wedding--is not reservable and is a popular spot for hikers and families in the summer. While you do step off the trail for your ceremony and people are generally quite respectful when they see a ceremony taking place, expect to have onlookers if you're getting married here in summer--especially on a weekend. Best times for privacy are weekday mornings.

The road to access this site is steep but well-paved. Be on the lookout for road bikers as you drive the switchbacks--there is no bike lane, and this is a very popular riding road for them.

Weddings are offered here year-round, but be advised that the road leading to the site can be difficult to navigate when it's snowing and snowshoes might be required to walk out to the site.

What we love about this site:

  • Fantastic views of the Continental Divide.

  • It's a four-season venue.

  • Proximity to Boulder.

Potential drawbacks of this site

  • Popular spot for bicycle riders and outdoor enthusiasts.

  • You're not that far off the (popular) trail for your ceremony. Note: there are some nearby spots with equally beautiful views that we can walk to from here is this particular site is occupied upon our arrival.)

Accessibility

Parking: ample, but this is a popular spot for hikers and bicycle riders. We strongly recommend carpooling.

Vehicle type: for winter, make sure your vehicle has good ground clearance to get over snow, as well as 4-wheel drive for potential ice. For weddings held between September 1st and May 31st, note that Colorado has strict traction laws in place that affect what type of vehicle you are allowed to drive in the mountains. If you are planning a Colorado mountain wedding between these dates, please thoroughly read this blog post so you'll be driving the right type of vehicle. (Don't rely on the car rental companies to fill you in on this; our experience is that they don't.)

Access from parking: short walk on a well-maintained dirt path, but not handicap accessible.

Dogs: allowed.

Bathrooms: yes.

Suitable for children: yes, but make sure someone is holding their hand.
