Because the beach is a bit difficult to access, it tends to be very unpopulated. However, if you want to be married on the beach, you will need to scramble down the path. See note and videos below. The two overlooks to the north and south of the beach do not require any such maneuvering!
The cove tends to be sheltered from the wind and is usually very tranquil. No permit is required.
Also, weddings on the beach here need to be at low to mid tide. Otherwise, the beach disappears. For the overlook, tides don't matter.
What we love about this site:
No permit required.
The cove makes for a good shelter from the wind.
The view of the Pacific is superb.
Potential drawbacks of this site
Getting to the beach requires a walk down a fairly steep path.
Dogs are not allowed.
Accessibility
Parking: the site has its own parking lot with plenty of spaces to accommodate up to 15 guests. However, the site can get very busy on weekends. We recommend Monday through Thursday weddings at this site.
Access from parking: 5-10 minute walk over a dirt path (with train tracks cutting through) to get to the overlook. Fairly steep walk (5-10 minutes) down from the bluff to the cove/beach.
Additional Logistics
Dogs: yes.
Bathrooms: no.
Suitable for children: yes, but make sure someone is holding their hands when near the overlook.
Max vehicles accommodated: parking is sufficient to hold as many cars as you'd need for up to 15 guests, but we still recommend carpooling.
Max number of guests at this site: 15.
Dates of Availability: Year-round, but we discourage weddings here on weekends in summer.
Type of site: public, reservable.
The site is managed by the state of California and a permit is required. We will add the cost ($325) to your package with Blue Sky Elopements and obtain the permit for you.
