This site is, simply put, gorgeous, as it features endless white sand and eucalyptus trees. Until 2018, it was our most popular beach elopement location. However, fees jumped markedly and now most couples find this site to be prohibitively expensive. At last check-in, it was over $1,200 to have even a 2-person wedding here.
It's large enough so that even if it's busy, you can find room to tuck away for a small ceremony. Dogs are allowed here.
It offers gorgeous cypress trees, a stone staircase (perfect for photos) and a vast expanse of white beach.
What we love about this site:
It's beautiful, and a stone's throw away from downtown Carmel.
Dogs are allowed.
Potential drawbacks of this site
Does require a permit.
Parking can be difficult.
Accessibility
Parking: There is a parking lot here, but in summer, the traffic in Carmel can be intense. You can walk to this beach from pretty much anywhere in downtown Carmel, so consider parking in town and walking if you want to avoid summer traffic.
Access from parking: Accessible for most. The walk to the beach is over concrete pathways/sidewalks, though there are some stairs.
Additional Logistics
Dogs: leashed dogs are allowed on the beach.
Bathrooms: yes.
Suitable for children: yes, but make sure someone is holding their hands near the water and overlook.
Max vehicles accommodated: many. Parking fills up quickly and tends to stay that way. We strongly recommend either carpooling or a shuttle service.
Max number of guests at this site: 30.
Dates of Availability: year-round.
This site is managed by the City of Carmel-by-the-Sea and does require a permit. The last time we were able to get information on permit fees, they were $1,200, and that was in 2018. We have tried to get information on how much the permit costs today, but as of yet, have been unable to get that amount.
