This site is managed by the city of Monterey. It offers sweeping views of Monterey Bay, gorgeous white sands and it's easily accessible. We prefer to have weddings at the northeastern part of the beach. This section is away from the hustle and bustle of downtown Monterey. It also has a beautiful ice plant backdrop along with a boardwalk and small overlook (suitable for weddings of 4 people or less).
Note that parking is VERY limited at the part of this beach where we perform weddings. It's basically in a neighborhood with on street parking. In summer, the best bet for this site is to get dropped off by taxi or shuttle. This beach is best for off-season, weekday weddings due to the parking issues.
What we love about this site:
Location: not exactly in the heart of downtown Monterey, but still close enough to keep it a short trip.
Does not require a permit for groups of 10 or less.
Dogs allowed on a leash.
Neat boardwalk.
Potential drawbacks of this site
Will require a permit for groups greater than 10 people.
Accessibility
Parking: 30-35 spaces of all off-street parking. They can fill quickly and stay that way. We highly recommend carpooling.
Access from parking: Accessible for most. Will require a 3-7-minute walk from parking to the beach over cement paved areas.
Additional Logistics
Dogs: yes, but must be on leash at all times.
Bathrooms: no.
Suitable for children: yes, but make sure someone is holding their hands near the water.
Max vehicles accommodated: 30-35. The off-street parking can fill quickly and stay that way. We highly recommend carpooling.
Max number of guests at this site: 6.
Dates of Availability: year-round.
Permits are not required for weddings with 10 people or less. This includes the couple, officiant, and photographer.
Permit fees for weddings with more than 10 people can be rolled into your package with Blue Sky Elopements and we'll obtain the permit for you. The cost is $600. Chairs, arches, tents, musicians, floral arrangements, etc. are not permitted on the beach. Beaches are open to the public; therefore, the public may walk through or occupy any and all areas of the beach – you may not "cord off" the area you intend to use. The only privilege associated with a Beach Permit is the right for a "group" to assemble.
Even if you do not require a permit, the city of Monterey highly recommends that you call and check availability for your event. Since this beach is reserved often, there is a chance that there may be a large event happening on your wedding day. You'll want to plan around that!
