Counting Money

We can count coins to $1. We can count combinations of bills ($1, $5, $10) and coins.

"Hairy Money" is one way we count money, especially if you're having difficulty with skip counting. Each hair is worth 5 cents.

For extra practice:

  • Empty out your piggy bank or wallet and practice counting the money in there!

  • Grab a handful of coins, count them up.

        • Make it a game: each person grabs a handful of coins, counts them, whoever has the most money wins!

  • Play store: label some items around your house with a price and go shopping with real or play money. Note: we have not learned how to make change yet, but this could be a good challenge with counting up!
