Science

Wow! How exciting it is to have a new science series called, "Bring Science Alive!"We will be implementing "Next Generation Science Standards" in our district.

Unit 1: Plant and Animal Survival

We have begun studying Unit 1. This unit will focus on the following lessons:

  • What Kinds of Living Things Are There?
  • What Do Plants and Animals Need to Survive?
  • How Do Plants and Animals Depend on Each Other?
  • Why Do Plants and Animals Live in Some Places and Not in Others?
  • How Do Plants and Animals Survive in a Rainforest?
  • How Do Plants and Animals Survive in a Desert?
  • How Do Plants and Animals Survive in a Pond?
  • How Do Plants and Animals Survive in the Ocean?

Some of the lessons will include hands-on investigations which the students will put on their lab coats and begin to investigate and discuss findings.

The second grade students went on their Nature Walk to Watsessing Park and had so much fun investigating and searching for living and nonliving things. Not only did they have fun, they LEARNED and worked nicely together! A very productive "Nature Walk."
