THE CHILD STUDY TEAM

What is the Child Study Team?

The CST is a group of specialized professionals, including a Learning Disability Teacher Consultant, School Psychologist, and Social Worker. Team members are able to evaluate students in the area of their specialties and make recommendations to address presenting problems. The CST works closely with the Speech-Language Specialists, Occupational Therapists, and Physical Therapists, when appropriate, and collaborates with parents, teachers, and administrators to provide a free and appropriate education to students. Members of the CST may also deliver related services, such as school-based individual and group counseling, to students with disabilities. The purpose of a Child Study Team evaluation is to determine if a student has a disability and is eligible for special education and related services. The criteria for making these judgments are outlined in the New Jersey Administrative Code, Title 6A, Chapter 14(N.J.A.C. 6A:14).
