Summer Reading

Summer is the best time to read! If it's nice outside you can bring your book with you and get some fresh air.  If it's raining or too hot, you can curl up inside by the fan or air conditioning and stay cool.  It's a great time to read books that YOU choose! If you ever need any suggestions, I have posted some lists by grade level below that you might enjoy.

I have also posted two optional reading challenges! The first is Book BINGO. I have two different bingo boards listed below. Choose a board, read five books that meet the categories in a row to get a BINGO! Everyone who gets a BINGO will receive a special bookmark. For every BINGO that you get this summer, you will be entered into a drawing for a prize. Just bring your completed BINGO board to me when school resumes in September!

The second reading challenge is called the A-Z Reading Challenge. This challenge continues into the school year and is due May 31, 2024. I challenge you to read 26 books, one for each letter of the alphabet! Click the link for more info.

BOOK BINGO:

Also, don't forget about the ebooks that BSS have purchased! We have over 100 ebooks that students can access for free.  See the "BSS Library Catalog/Destiny Discover" section below for information on how to login and view the ebooks. I've also provided a few other links to books and some websites below for curious learners!

BSS Library Catalog / Destiny Discover - Visit this page to learn how to log into Destiny Discover to search for books and ebooks in our library.

SORA - Sora from Overdrive is providing our school with some free e-books and audiobooks.   Here's how:

Visit https://soraapp.com/library/blesssacma.  (There is also a Sora app you could download.)

For Grades 3-8 and for faculty: Where it says Select your School, choose "Google (Grades 3+)." Then click on the green button that says "Sign in Using Google Grades 3+." You will then log in with the same credentials that you do for your BSS Google account.

For Grades PreK-2: Where it says Select Your School, choose "User ID." I will be sending you your usernames and passwords.  You will enter your username where it says "Library Card," and then click the green Sign In button.

Once you are logged in, you can browse ebooks and audiobooks.  What is really cool is that you can enter your public library card and it will also show you the ebooks and audiobooks available there.  There are so many books available at public libraries, so this is a great feature! If anyone needs help with any of this, just let me know!

Story Time From Space. Astronauts read books to kids on Earth from space! The astronauts also explore different science concepts in Science Time from Space.

Storyline Online shows celebrities reading books online.  It's very cool to see famous people reading children's books!

DK FindOut! Explore all kinds of topics from DK Publishers. Includes videos, articles, and fun facts about a wide variety of topics (space, music, sports, transportation, math, history, animals, etc.).

wonderopolis.org. Answer all your burning questions and browse all kinds of topics. Every day, Wonderopolis poses and explores an intriguing question called "The Wonder of the Day." Users can submit their own questions or browse the many interesting ones that have already been posted.

National Geographic Kids. Lots to explore here! Articles, videos and games from the amazing National Geographic.  Includes a section on Weird But True (the book series that is wildly popular with BSS students!)
