CARLSBAD HIGH SCHOOL SCHOLAR ATHLETE, VARSITY LETTER AND PATCH INFORMATION
Awards, Letters and Patches
1st Year Varsity Players can get a Letter. They are available in the ASB student store and cost $5. After they get their letter, they go to Mr. Bloomquist's office to get their sport specific patch.
1st-4th year Varsity Players get the sport patch.
There are JV certificates, and then Varsity, 2nd year, 3rd year and 4th year certificates.
We have Scholar Athlete Lanterns that are given to the varsity student/athletes that have above a 3.5, during the grading period of the sport. (It will not be the same as the UT and CIF Academic GPA. They all have different criteria).
Each level will get a scholar athlete sticker on their award if they have above a 3.5 current, non-weighted grade point average.
Please email the athletic director with any questions at tbloomquist@carlsbadusd.net.
The San Diego Union-Tribune and the County Office of Education are again co-sponsoring the All-Academic Team, which recognizes outstanding high school student-athletes for their grade-point averages. Thank you in advance for participating in the program.
Three times a year, corresponding with fall, winter and spring sports seasons, the Union-Tribune publishes the names of varsity junior and senior student-athletes with cumulative and weighted grade-point averages of 3.0 or above. Cumulative GPAs include all semesters starting with fall of freshman year. Weighted GPAs include honors classes weighted on a 5.0 scale. Certificates for each of the students are mailed to the school.
In addition, the Union-Tribune selects one Team Captain for each sport, who is awarded a plaque. From the Captains’ category, the U-T awards a trophy to the male and female Academic Athletes of the Year in June.
Only varsity juniors and seniors competing in a CIF-approved sport are eligible.
The purpose of the All Academic Teams and Cymer Scholars is to honor students who excel not only athletically, but academically as well. The programs recognize some of the very brightest students in San Diego and Imperial Counties.
All Academic Teams honor the teams in each sport that compile the highest, combined unweighted grade point average in their region of the CIF San Diego Section. The five regions of the San Diego Section are North, South, Metropolitan San Diego, East, and Inland (Imperial County).
In each of those regions, the team in each sport with the highest team GPA is recognized as the All Academic Team.
Cymer Scholars are the junior or senior on each All Academic Team with the highest cumulative, weighted GPA.
To be considered for All Academic Team honors a team must have enough eligible athletes on its roster to compete in a sanctioned league or championship competition.
Each member of every All Academic Team receives a personalized certificate from the CIF San Diego Section. And each Cymer Scholar receives an additional certificate from Cymer and the CIF.
