¡Hola! My name is Señora Petru. I am from Omaha, Nebraska. After enlisting in the USMC Reserves and attending boot camp in Parris Island, South Carolina immediately after high school, I enrolled at UNL. I graduated from UNL in 2003 with my bachelor's degree, then taught for 12 years in the Westside Community School District while earning my master's degree in Curriculum & Instruction from Doane. I am now one of the Spanish 1 and 2 teachers at Blair High School.
We have a beautiful daughter who is in 7th grade, two dogs named Brekyn and Barkley, as well as two cats named Blue and Buttons. We spend a majority of our time attending her activities as a competitive gymnast in Trampoline and Tumbling, reading, doing yard work, and planning our future vacations to Spanish-speaking countries when we're not working on lesson plans/homework! Most recently we visited the Punta Cana region in the Dominican Republic. My husband and I have known each other since we were 5 years old growing up across the street from one another. We were married in 2020! Shawn is an HVAC Engineer with Siemens with over 20 years experience.
I come from a small family. My brother and sister-in-law are globe trotters. They've lived in Ecuador, Colombia, Antarctica, Brazil, and are now living in Colorado with their three children. We're a family of teachers! My brother teaches Science in Colorado, my father is a retired Science teacher from Westside, and I am loving my role as a Spanish teacher here at BHS!
In addition to teaching Spanish, my extra-curricular involvement includes leadership within the Professional Learning Communities Committee and I am an Otus Certified Educator.
