INSTRUCTOR: Brandi Rackers

brackers@blairoaks.org

I have been teaching art for over 12 years

I have my B.S. in Art Education from Missouri State University

I have my M.A. in Studio Art from Lindenwood University

I was born and raised in Jefferson City, MO

Being an art instructor, I feel it is very important to embrace all forms of art, but of course I have my favorites- I really LOVE watercolor, ceramics, and photography!

My favorite artists are Frida Kahlo and Vincent Van Gogh

I am always inspired by Nature and People

Art I is a foundational course that includes two- and three-dimensional fine arts (landscape, portrait, figure, still life, abstract and non-objective subject matter), decorative arts, design arts, and architecture.  Students engage in the disciplines of Art History, Art Criticism, Aesthetics, and Art Production in which they show proficiency in printmaking, ceramics, drawing, painting, and sculpture.  The elements of this course will be taught through demonstrations, critiques, research projects, experimentation, and assignments.

Art 2 combines a variety of projects and media seen in Art I with the sophistication of ideas and processes expected of an advanced art class. Students engage in drawing, painting, and mixed media with an emphasis on creative problem solving while further developing a passion for art. Additional work outside of class is an expectation.

Ceramics is a comprehensive study in methods of sculpture, hand-built clay construction and basic wheel throwing techniques. Students explore three- dimensional design while developing both useful and sculptural forms. Creativity and quality craftsmanship are emphasized.

Art Club is a  versatile group that stays busy during the school year. Artistic talent is encouraged but not necessary to be an active member of the club. This club exposes members to new understandings of the art world. The club responds to tasks that the school and community need. In past years, students have done face painting events, banner making, and more! Each year, the Art Club is also responsible for helping with Winterfest events. Students do NOT have to be enrolled in an art class or be "good at art" to be involved. The club generally meets twice a month on Tuesdays after school from 3-4pm but will meet more often as needed.
