Mr. Collier's Chemistry

My name is George Collier. I'm a native of the Wood River Valley, and had the good fortune to work my way through the Blaine County School District, and graduate from Wood River High School. I had some really inspirational teachers in high school, many of whom are still teaching here today. I love my work here and I really appreciate this place as a former student of Wood River High School.

Living in the valley for a lifetime has given me an appreciation for the outdoors, and all the amazing activities this place affords us. I grew up cross country ski racing on the Sun Valley Ski Team, which gave me an opportunity to race in college at University of Nevada, Reno. I developed a love of science there, and earned a BS in Secondary Education, with a focus on life sciences. I went on to University of Utah for a Masters of Biology, focusing on Biology education.

When I'm not teaching I, along with my wife Nikki and dogs Magpie and Riley are usually in the mountains hiking, skiing, hunting, biking, or camping. A strong connection to the outdoors promotes an understanding of the natural world that aids in science teaching. I encourage my students to relate our lessons to their lives outside the classroom, and to use their science education to become better stewards of the outdoors.
