When you log in to your Chromebook using your college email and password, you will immediately be signed up to most of the services you need to have access to in college. Your work should be completed under this account as it will all be automatically saved under your college account and sending it to teachers will be much easier.
If you have already logged in with your own gmail address, log out of the machine and return to the start up screen. You will see the option to 'add another user' - when prompted for the address and password, use your college email details. (Google's help page is here)
If the Chromebook is your own, you will be able to log in to your personal account and use the device as you wish but whilst logged in to this account, you will find it much harder to log on to the various college systems as the Chromebook will assume you are using your personal Gmail account. Therefore, to complete work, always log in with your college account.
When you access the Google Play Store logged in to your college account you will note that you see only a limited amount of apps. This is because we only allow secure apps to be installed via college.
Any software your teachers require you to use will be added to the Play Store and sometimes apps may auto download to your machine if you require them for your subjects.
This will always only effect your college account. No data or information is ever collected about what you install, use or browse when not using your college account. (apart from if you are using college WiFi, where all internet use is monitored for safeguarding purposes) If your are logged in to your personal account you will have full access to the machine and can, of course, install whatever you wish!
No settings the college apply to your college account will have any effect on your personal profile on your Chromebook.
