Support NBMA's Growth with a Micro - Sponsorship
As the National Black Midwives Alliance embarks on a new chapter of growth in 2025, we are ever more committed to our founding principles: Legacy, Power, and Voice — honoring and uplifting Black midwifery history; leveraging the collective power of Black midwives representing various midwifery pathways; and amplifying and highlighting Black midwives’ perspectives, knowledge, and contributions.
Since its founding in 2018 and incubation as a project within the Southern Birth Justice Network, NBMA has charged ahead with a bold mission to represent the voices of Black midwives across the United States. Since its founding, NBMA has launched an annual mentorship program for Black student midwives to receive guidance and support from professional, seasoned midwives with shared lived experiences; created the Legacy Power Voice: Movements in Black Midwifery docuseries amplifying the first-hand accounts, testimonies, and experiences of Black midwives; shipped free PPE kits to Black midwives at the height of COVID-19 and free prenatal kits to support midwives with tele-health and community education, and to support students with training supplies; awarded micro-scholarships to students and launched a Black Student Midwife Scholarship Fund; hosted a midwifery learning exchange journey to Zanzibar; and established the Black Midwives Day campaign, which grows in momentum each year and is celebrated by annual conferences.
As a newly independent entity, as of January 2025, to be fiscally sponsored by the Southern Birth Justice Network, NBMA aims to strengthen and deepen commitment to its work and vision: a world in which all Black midwives are thriving and caring for our families and communities, without barriers. Your contribution, of any size, would serve to further this work and vision in this new and exciting stage for NBMA as well as support us in covering conference planning costs that enable us to keep the conference free for attendees.
