About BIT MESRA
Established in 1955 by visionary industrialist Late Sri B. M. Birla, BIT Mesra was the first institution granted autonomous status in 1972 under the UGC Act. It pioneered small manufacturing enterprises in 1970 through the Small Industries Research and Development Organization (SIRDO). It also conceptualized the Science and Technological Entrepreneurs Park (STEP). Located in the outskirts of Ranchi, the main campus spans approximately 780 acres with well-developed infrastructure amidst lush green Sal Forest at the confluence of Subarnarekha and Jumar rivers.
About The Department
The Department of Chemical Engineering at BIT Mesra, led by qualified faculty, offers education in various fields of Chemical Engineering, with a focus on Polymer Engineering. It gained national recognition with the Gold Trophy for Plasticon Award 2012, under the category of Best Educational Institution Contributing to Plastics. This award was presented at the 8th International Plastics Exhibition and Conference, supported by the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers, Government of India. The department has undertaken numerous projects sponsored by organizations like DST, CSIR, ICMR, DRDO, the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, and the Coir Board.
