Biswell Forestry is dedicated to restoring the health of forested landscapes through innovative forest management practices that embrace fire as a vital tool. Inspired by Harold Biswell’s approach to balancing fire prevention, suppression, and intentional fire use, our work addresses the unique challenges of Northern California’s Coast Range. Over millennia, these forests were shaped by frequent, low-intensity fires, fostering ecosystems rich in diversity and resilience. Today, they face overcrowded stands, diminished understories, and heightened risks of high-intensity wildfires and disease.

We specialize in creating sustainable, resilient landscapes through services such as fuel break design, stand thinning, and prescribed burning. Our goal is to transform forests into less dense, more diverse ecosystems teeming with grasses, forbs, and wildlife. These vibrant understories not only support biodiversity but also play a critical role in maintaining manageable, low-intensity fire behavior.
