Year 12 Tu Lan Expedition

Welcome to the Year 12 Tu Lan Expedition Website

Overview

The Tu Lan caving expedition to Phong Nha - Ke Bang National Park is an expedition centred predominantly around the 'activity' strand of CAS. It involves a challenging 3 day expedition into the Tu Lan cave system with 20km of jungle hiking, exploration of 4 caves and the opportunity to camp in spectacular surroundings. British trained caving experts and guides provided by Oxalis lead the expedition into the cave system and the itinerary is put together by AsiaMoitons. Students will also have the opportunity to partake in community service and team building activities, kayaking and mountain biking.

Aims

  • Push students out of their comfort zone and embrace the IB philosophy of risk taking. Students will have to overcome mental and physical adversity, persevere and support each other as part of a team - all valuable, transferable skills.

  • Connect with one another as well as the stunning nature of Phong Nha - Ke Bang National Park with no phone signal or WiFi for 3 days.

  • Partake in community projects aimed at encouraging sustainability and care for the environment among the local community and National Park.

About Tu Lan Cave System - Phong Nha - Ke Bang

The Tu Lan system consists of around 10 different caves and lies approximately 70km from Phong Nha - Ke Bang National Park. A limestone mountain region, the jungle is dotted with rivers, waterfalls and caves, some only discovered as recently as 2012. A mixture of dry and wet caves await those intrepid enough to make the journey to explore the truly unique region of Vietnamese jungle. Oxalis have exclusive access to the region of the national park where the Tu Lan system resides in an attempt by the government to limit the amount of tourists and the impact on the environment.
