Christmas Traditions - Mylie Trahan and Ella Irey

We went around and surveyed some people at lunch time. The top Christmas traditions we found that people really enjoy are Christmas trees, candy canes, and opening presents on Christmas Day or Eve. Candy canes are just fun to have around the holidays because they started earlier in the traditions and were made to be a shepherd's cane in the form of a candy! Most people have Christmas trees in their house and enjoy decorating them in December! Lastly, people enjoy opening Christmas presents, seeing what they get even thought that's not what the holidays is all about! We wanted to know what people like to do around the holidays that is popular and fun to do. We also went around the school and took pictures of the traditions of the school. The tradition that the school has is the door decorating contest. Each year every homebase has a week or how ever many days to decorate a door with any theme that is Christmas or Winter. On the last week before Christmas break some of the Horizon staff goes around the school and looks at the door and decides who wins on each team and the over all winner. This brings the whole school altogether and is a fun activity to do for Christmas!

DIY Last Minute Christmas Gifts, By :Shea Polk

To make Christmas bookmarks for your favorite bookworm get Christmas paper and stickers.

Cut out slips of christmas paper for the bookmarks.

Put the stickers on the paper or right a personal message.

And then your done, if you need supplies you can stop at the Discovery Dens Bookmark making station.

To make a cute tree ornament, start by taking a cinnamon stick and gluing a bead/star and the top and tying a fabric slip to the glue to make sure it stays.

Then take some twine and glue it to the inside so that it can hang on a tree.

Then take more slips of fabric and tie them until the cinnamon stick is full.

Then make sure you have some room on the bottom to be the trunk and then your done.

First Take a Small mason jar, one tablespoon of coconut oil, one forth cup espom salt, and your favorite essential oil.

Mix one tablespoon of coconut oil, one forth cup espom salt, and your essential oils (I used the scent Christmas Tree to make it really festive smelling.)

Next put it in the Mason Jar and then you have a really cute Christmas bath salt.

Did you like the last minute Christmas gifts? We had a lot of fun creating these cute and easy D.I.Y. last minute Christmas gifts. Hopefully you recreate and gift these for Christmas!

We made a survey about what people want for Christmas. We had some of the communications classes take it. We wanted to find out what was the most popular and fun for us to get our friends for Christmas. The most popular to get friends is gift cards and money. We also surveyed most popular gifts for other people. Grandmas and Moms are most likely to want jewelry. Dads and Grandpas are most likely to want outdoorsman products such as hunting, fishing and camping gear. Lastly friends, extended relatives and siblings want money, mostly so you can buy whatever you want when you go to the store! By: Shea Polk and Ella Irey

Why Bark?

Why did our group choose to do chocolate bar recipes you may ask. The answer to this is simple, Chocolate bark is a easy, delicious, last minute dessert. You will find that you probably have all the ingredients and tools to make it. So it is perfect for any middle school student to make even if they do not have much experience in the kitchen. So hopefully you will try out these recipes and like them!

Jar Exploratory

The jars above are projects that the 8th grade Dream team girls in Mrs. Matties exploratory are working on for a Christmas present for anyone they choose. It's really simple all you have to do is take a clear jar and get some paint, Christmas decor, and anything you please. First you take the jar and paint 2 coats of the paint you choose. Next you decorate with the Christmas decor you place and decorate the jars until you are happy with it. You can make as many as you want. They are perfect gifts for yourself or someone else. They take at least 24 hours so you can let the paint dry until you do anything else. You can also fill them with beads and put a candle in there so you can have a Christmas Candle.

The pictures below are some of the other decorations around the school. If you look in Quest you can see all of their beautiful lights. In our school we all love Christmas and we love the decor. I think that we have the best out of all of the schools!
