Mary Van is the advisor for the Star Newspaper and the 'Riot Literary Magazine and has been teaching English for 17 years—all of which have been at Century High School.

"Being a journalism advisor is one of the best parts of my job. I love being able to have my students for multiple years and watch them grow as people and as writers," Van said.

Van's goal is to help students become resilient and life-long learners who pursue creativity and leadership skills when writing, designing, and collaborating.

Van is married to Nicholas Van who teaches math at Legacy High School. She has two sons, Liam and Sebastian.
