Michael Schumacher, considered one of the best racers in the world with some of the most wins and champion-ships ever, in the racing league Formula 1. In his career, Schumacher won Seven world championship titles, 91 grand prix wins, 155 podium wins and 306 starts.
Considered one of the many faces of the Formula 1 constructor Scuderia Ferrari. Unfortunately, on December 29, 2013, Schumacher was hospitalized after a skiing incident.
He remained bedridden for three months and slipped into a coma in April 2014.
In early 2026, Schumacher's family announced he was fully conscious but needed a wheelchair to move around.
Schumacher's racing career has been considered one of the most rigorous in the history of Formula 1.
For all time championships, Lewis Hamilton and Schumacher are tied, Hamilton with seven world championships.
His rise to fame
Born in 1969, Schumacher started his racing career in the F3 Karting and had his debut in F1 at the 1991 Belgian Grand Prix. He took his first Grand Prix win at Spa in 1992. He then won his first championship in 1994 and then in 1995.
In 1996, Schumacher joined the struggling team Scuderia Ferrari.
In 1995, he helped Scuderia Ferrari placed third in the World Construct-ors’ Championship with only 73 points.
The second place team, included Williams Renault, who scored in the hundreds of points, making it a bad season for most teams.
Over time, slowly but surely, he would bring the team back to their glory days win by win.
He would also make notable rivals between 1990-1994 when he raced against Damon Hill.
In 1998-2000, he raced against Lotus driver Mika Hakkinen. He also raced against Renault driver Fernando Alonso, who still races for team
Aston Martin.
Since the skiing Incident in 2013 and
following a coma since 2014, Ferrari has yet to fully recover.
In 2025, Ferrari placed fourth mainly being carried by driver Charles Leclerc.
Ferrari's downfall mainly started to drop drastically in 2017 as they failed to find new drivers to replace Schumacher.
In 2025, Ferrari claimed Lewis Hamilton from Mercedes, who is a seven-time world champion.
Fans gave Schumacher the notable nickname “The Red Baron” because of Ferrari’s red racing jumpsuit. A common phrase used by fans is “this year is our year” in hopes he will return like in the glory days.
Schumacher’s family is very private about his medical wellness making it very hard to get much information about his current situation medically.
Hopes are high that he will be able to watch the 2026 Formula 1 season as its changed drastically since his racing career.
