Dear Parents,
This last month has been filled with laughter and happy faces of our students. Inside the newsletter you will see all the fabulous events that have taken place. I would like to thank the teachers involved for organising these.
The annual Summer Fete was a resounding success and special thanks must go to Ms Lynne who spent months meticulously planning it.
Well done to all our students this academic year. Our annual awards have taken place this week and finally culminating in our very first Year 6 Graduation event. Very well deserved!
My heartfelt thanks to Ms Alison for her great support and I wish her success and fulfilment in her new role as Director.
Best wishes

Pastoral Care & Wellbeing
What a fantastic way to end the Summer term with a fun day out for all the family. The biggest event of the year was enjoyed by all ages from all campuses.
We really brought our BSI community together at our Summer fete!
Lots of traditional games to play and things to do at the stalls run by our amazing teachers.
Vendors from our community joined and sold lots of delicious things to eat, ceramics, jewelry and much more.
A wonderful day of entertainment from our students and the hard working creative arts team, choir performances, a theatrical production of Street Dog, musical pieces and a talent show, it always amazes me to see so many talented students.
We had great party food to eat and a super cake stall organized by the PTA.
The day finished with our traditional raffle, where everyone was able to try to win a prize. All proceeds from the day will go to our chosen charity TIDER
A big thank you to everyone from and we hope to see you next year.
Happy holidays!

Year One
Miss Katrine: 1D
In Year 1, the students have been learning about why some things float and other things sink. As the weather has been getting better, the children enjoyed taking their learning outside when exploring floating and sinking through water play.
To celebrate a successful year in Year 1, we organised a picnic in the beautiful botanical garden. The children enjoyed being outdoors, socialising with their friends in the sun, and sharing delicious snacks. We wish you the best of luck in your future endeavours!
Miss Lizzie: 1S
Toucan class participated in a play and transported themselves into the Amazon rainforest where they became monkeys, frogs and sloths. The main theme centred around how we can all succeed if we try our best, even if we struggle at the beginning. The children sang various songs, danced and remembered their lines in front of a live audience. We even sang our special class song called 'Where the Toucans Fly'. Here are some photos of the children in character, singing their hearts out and having a great time. Well done Toucans!
Year Two
Ms. Verralls: 2V & Ms. Aycan: 2A
In Humanities, Year 2 learnt about what it was like to live in Constantinople before 1453. We had a special focus day where the children made shields; resconstructed a model of Constantinople and the battle of 1453 when Mehmet the Conqueror finally conquered the city. We also tasted food from that era and participated in a role play. We learnt how strong the walls of Constantinople were, we made cannons and catapults and learnt about the chain across the Golden Horn. To learn even more about the topic, Year 2 visited the 1953 Panorama Museum, We watched the amazing animation which brought the event to life. Learning through experiencing events proved very popular and educational.
Thank you to all parents that worked to make our end of year picnic so special for the children!
Year Three
Mrs. Robbins: 3R
Year 3 has been busy learning about Ancient Egypt. They have been exploring the Nile river, how people lived daily, burial rituals, hieroglphs, and all about the Ancient Egyptian culture.
The students have taken part in many activities including dressing up, jewelry making, writing like an Ancient Egyptian, and even putting on a play about a Tomb thief.
3R students are exploring lines in art. They are experimenting with thicker and thinner lines to create the look of texture in their their drawings. We took this art lesson out to the gardens to enjoy some sunshine.
Thank you to our wonderful Y3 parents for organising such a lovely end-of-year picnic!
Ms. Adesanya: 3A
Year 3A visited Şuşoğlu Bakery in Sariyer as part of our work in design and technology. In design and technology we studied healthy eating which included finding out where our ingredients come from. We had to make and eat healthy sandwiches. In addition, we looked at different types of bread from all over the world. There was one burning question; How is bread made? The only place to get an answer was to arrange a trip to the Bakery. The children watched the process of bread making from pouring and mixing the flour, rolling and weighing the dough to putting the dough in the oven. The children were able to discuss and write about these processes. The height of this bakery visit was when the bakery handed out a free loaf of bread to each of the children.
Year Four
Ms. Lincoln: 4L
Towards the end of term we have seen more practical activities in 4L.
Children have been busy with survey conducting and making impressive graphs from their gathered data. Also some very important measuring going on around primary. Amazing accuracy given to every meter and centimeter. Well done 4L!
Ms. Newman: 4N
Year 4 students had a lovely time celebrating the end of the year with a picnic and outdoor games!
Year Five
Ms. Lloyd: 5L & Mr. Fawcett: 5F
In Year 5's Science unit, students have been recognising the impact of science and technology in society. This has included the study of artificial satellites which are objects intentionally placed into orbit around a celestial body. Students researched satellites and their uses. They compared natural and artificial satellites, then they made models. In the photos, both classes are sharing their work with each other in a mini science exhibition.
Year 5 enjoyed a visit to Sariyer Bowling Center this month as a reward for completing their end of year assessments. Both classes enjoyed a competitive game of bowling and showed good sportsmanship throughout! They finished the trip with some tasty burgers and pizza before heading back to school with full stomachs!
Year 5 visited Emirgan Park and Sakip Sabanci Museum this month to view the magnificent art exhibition. They were particularly impressed with the Living Pyramid by Agnes Denes. All students asked some great questions to our tour guide and learned about portrait art, landscape painting and still life paintings. Excellent behaviour and good manners were displayed by both classes and they were all very respectful. Well done Year 5!
Year Six
YEAR 6 TRANSITION 2023
The Year 6 students followed a secondary school timetable for two days (Tuesday 13th and Wednesday 14th June) to allow them to meet many of their future subject teachers and get a taste of the adjustments they will have to make when they join secondary school in September.
At the beginning of the first day the students watched a transition video made by the Year 7 Transition Committee (Shaikhah, Martyna, Diya, Victoria, Amina, Rafe, Hyerin, Mara and Sofia), who also visited the Year 6 classes in both campuses the week before the transition days, to give them some advice and to answer questions about their own experience in secondary school.
During the transition days, the students experienced a variety of lessons: Maths, English, Science, History, Geography, ICT, Languages, Creative Arts and PE. They also had some team-building activities with Outdoorturk.
We are looking forward to seeing the Year 6 students again in September!

Mrs. Gwilliam: ESL
The year is nearly over and holidays are coming. The intermediates finished planning and writing and made their display. Well done! Asya and Chaeah show the display. Year 6 made their own tenses game and enjoyed playing it. Year 2 and 3 wrote a story together. They were proud of their work. Chaeah did a great job writing in English and Korean to reassure new ESL students coming to BISI. Meanwhile Paul and Leo were helping each other with words for maths.
Ms. Hatice: Turkish
In our last lessons Y6, we talked about Turkish culture and the students drew the "Maiden's Tower", one of our famous places in Istanbul. We repeated colors and numbers with Y2. and played 'istop' and '1,2,3,4,5 frozen' games outside.
KS2 Choir

On Wednesday 14th June, we recorded the 2 ‘Sing Up Day 2023’ songs which will be featured on YouTube alongside schools from around the world
On Thursday 15th June, we performed for the KS1 children in the amphitheatre
On Friday 16th June, the choir performed all 8 songs for the KS2 children in the morning and 75 parents in the afternoon, in our indoor theatre. It was a great way to end the academic year and the children sang and performed beautifully.
You can watch the recordings of their performances here: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1ySQqkmuye4bmW--TA2lu3Sy2O0GQdILI?usp=sharing
