Mae Cymraeg yn fyw yn Ysgol yr Esgob Gore - Welsh is alive in Bishop Gore School
Pwy yw'r Criw? Who are the crew?
The Criw Cymraeg at Bishop Gore School is a passionate, dynamic team of pupils committed to celebrating and promoting the Welsh language and culture throughout the school community. Carefully selected from a large pool of enthusiastic applicants, the members of the Criw Cymraeg come from a wide range of year groups and backgrounds, and all bring different levels of Welsh language ability. While none of the members are fluent Welsh speakers yet, they share a strong enthusiasm for the language and a commitment to developing their own skills while encouraging others to do the same. This reflects the inclusive ethos of the Criw, showing that everyone, regardless of their starting point, can play an important role in supporting and celebrating Welsh at Bishop Gore School.
The Criw Cymraeg meets regularly to plan and coordinate a wide range of initiatives aimed at increasing the use and visibility of Welsh across the school.
They help run Clwb Cymraeg, a fun and welcoming Welsh-language club open to all pupils.
They also support the wider use of Welsh around the school through bilingual displays, assemblies, and cultural promotion.
Several members of the Criw are currently involved in an exciting bilingual book project. This project involves creating original Welsh-English books that will be published and shared with younger learners in the near future. It’s a fantastic opportunity for Criw members to use their creativity and language skills to make a real impact beyond the walls of Bishop Gore.
The Criw also plays a leading role in organising and delivering major cultural events such as the school-wide Dydd Shwmae celebrations.
The Criw’s creativity and enthusiasm help ensure that these occasions are meaningful and enjoyable for all.
They also act as ambassadors for the Welsh language in the wider community, regularly visiting local primary schools to lead activities, run workshops, and share their passion for the language. These visits help build strong links with younger pupils and encourage a love of Welsh from an early age.
Looking ahead, the Criw Cymraeg will be playing a key role in supporting the launch of the new Bishop Gore School Esiteddfod during the summer term.
Through their dedication, creativity, and leadership, the Criw Cymraeg is helping to shape a school community where the Welsh language is visible, valued, and celebrated by all.
