classroom news

Fall 2018

We will be sending a weekly newsletter out from our 5th grade team to your email via Skyward. If you are not receiving this newsletter, please let us know as soon as possible. We want to keep you informed. Important dates, upcoming events, and things we have studied in the four core subjects are in this newsletter.

We suggest loading the App, Class Dojo to your computer and your cell phone. All five teachers have this app on our phones, and computers, and will use this app for fifth grade. I will also use Class Dojo for some book talks this year. We sometimes send out quick messages in Class Dojo . We will upload photos at times of learning experiences, field trips etc. This is a great way to see pictures for those parents that can't take a day off and the photos are for that homeroom only to see. We have been known to take a photo of handouts to send to parents when their child has not gotten a handout home for some reason, or their child was absent. Class Dojo also helps keep track of your child's behavior.

All fifth grade teachers will give you a code for their homeroom, or invite you to join a class. Please contact your homeroom teacher if you need your access code again. You can use Class Dojo on your computer or on your phone as an app. Please check it daily.

Please be mindful of your child's schedule. In hopes that learning is not disrupted, it is important that your child not be interrupted during the day for dropped off lunches/notes/etc. Occasionally emergencies and appointments are scheduled, but please try to help limit those times.

Dismissal Changes: Please try to make arrangements prior to the start of the school day. However, if a change does occur, - please contact the office before 2:30.

Attendance: It is important for your child to start his/her day off in a timely manner. Please help your child by getting him/her to school by 7:35; the tardy bell rings at 7:45. If your child has a doctor's appointment, be sure to get a doctor's note.

Snacks: During Class = Your child may have a HEALTHY snack during class. No foods containing peanuts or tree nuts. (we don't have bleach water to clean our desks ) Please read labels and be aware that children in the classroom may be allergic to a variety of items. A water bottle may be brought to class all day.

Birthday: The Methodist church brings cupcakes monthly to celebrate - please do not send any other type of classroom snack.

Birthday Invitations: Per School Policy: Invitations for entire class may be given out. If a girls or boys only party - invitations may be given to all boys or all girls in class. Otherwise please personally hand out invitations outside of school to protect the feelings of each child.

Homework: Homework is sent home on an as-needed basis rather than a set weekly schedule. Homework typically consists of finishing in-class assignments or additional practice on a skill.
